Seemed like the smartest of the trio to me if I'm honest.
I give the "Birth of a Salesman" episode for an example, remember the bit with the Gravity Stopper? Note that Grounder woulda fell for the first trick if Scratch hadn't explained it to him, and even then, Scratch fell for the second one. Meanwhile Coconuts actually managed to catch Sonic and Tails in "The Magic Hassle" with the magic kit that he gets. That and he knew where the "escape pod" was after one failure of all four of them. Forgot which episode that was.
But yes, he's still very funny.
