Prompt: 6. A member (or two!) of the opposite army happens upon you! What do you do?
It had been some time since this war had begun.
There was no exact measurement, only that the moon had been gluttonously full, it's light devouring any stars in its space when she had embarked on this quest. In contrast, there was no trace of the moon tonight, stars filling its absence.
The difference of sky felt somewhat significant to the simple minded mare, feeling that she had lost a companion and truly was alone for this leg of her journey. Usually surrounded by foals or at least her pasture mates, the moon was an excellent surrogate for these, not only for companion ship but security; usually predators of the night would be illuminated by the moon's light or another's alarm but she could only rely on herself. Despite the muscles that rippled underneath her coat, the mare felt increasingly vulnerable with not having several sets of eyes but only her one.
Her vulnerability bit and buzzed at her throughout the night, an incessant mosquito. While other equine may have been driven mad by that, driving them into a frenzy. In contrast, she continued in her calm manner, unremarkable as ever. There was always a shade of grey to find in situations that appeared black and white, this one's being that solitude and peace gave the mare a moment to savor memories of the past. Always living in the luxiury zen of the moment, she rarely thought to look to the past so the warmth of reliving past memories was surprisingly warming.
Of course, quickly after she had found the good in solitude, company invited themselves in a ray of blinding light. Dear aether, the moon fallen in her path, the ballator thought her eye adjusted from complete darkness to the glow in front of her. Not the moon but two desertian mares stood in her presence. Sugi, startled not only by their appearance but one's appearance: A dark stranger, lit from the inside from rows of stripes and various muscles. Moths flew at and around these markings but instead a horse tail to flick them away, billowing smoke rose from her back, choking them slowly. The other mare did not have same light emit from her ribs but a different shine that lit her eyes and gave her teeth that extra gleam. This inner light matched her coat, a bright pink dotted with the highest of pinks to the lowest.
The silent of approach of these two would should have caused concern but Kintsugi ignored the context of their approached and focused on themselves. Although both did smell similar of those who had pursued her in the name of Hannibal, they were anything but grave robbers and arsonists; chatty, pleasant and just down right cheerful. The trio begun to walk together as they discussed many things, none regarding about their positions. Perhaps like her, they hunger for the company in the dark of the night. Besides, no matter what side of that they were fighting for, weren't they all aether's children?
Between the playful antics of the taffy mare and the dark stranger's insights, the hours flew by and soon dawn's light begun to creep through the hills. With the night successfully navigated, the trio came at a crossroads; The duo had to go one way and while Sugi had her own path. Such was life after all but her taffy companion seemed loathed to leave her, expressing her grievances.
"Aw, seriously?"
The pink desterian mare asked with a tilt of her head before jumping at the side of kintsugi, her hooves not intending to pierce but to lean against the palomino. Sugi flinched but did nothing to resist this action, after all this was an act of play after all. The desertian mare was struggling to even keep a foot hold as one of the two legs supporting slid down while the other was only anchored by Sugi's chest horns.
"Alirght, alright. After all we did just..."
The definition of play quickly changed in that moment for Sugi, clued in by the dark stranger's horrified expression and the hot breath that embraced her ear
"Talked your ear off."

Whew! Switched to some traditional sketches to kind of restart my mental system...There nothing like sketcching on the floor for me, brings a lot of good memories of childhood for me!
And as I feel like I have a lot more control of my drawings when I draw traditionally, the expressions are a lot better in this! And how could they not with such wonderful chracters?? Thank you so much to sjogress and ThaliaEGA for donating your chracters, they were perfect for creating such a friendly and tense situation at the same time! I hope I kept them in chracter enough, tried not to mention anything too specfic as to not cross any lines.
Very tired so don't have much more to say but that Sugi might be missing a ear after this..
