At first I wasn't going to add the lighting effects in the last panel, but then I felt that it wouldn't look as good if I didn't put them in. Also, those tree trunks were quite tedious to color in, and the grass itself was annoying to draw. I suppose it's like what they say: an artist must suffer to make good art (or something along those lines, anyway).

Love the small details you put into the enviroment, especially the grass!

Actually, you don't need so much texture in every spot; only those where the eye is meant to focus. When everything is textured so heavily, it can be visually overwhelming. You may also consider using colored line art to ease the weight of some of the outlines.

I always feel the need to add texture everywhere because otherwise I feel lazy. As for colored line art, I've tried that on numerous occasions but without any success.

Well, just remember that too much of a good thing can be bad. Being precise about where you place high detail doesn't mean you're lazy at all, it just means you're being conscientious about the visual focus of your image. Also, keep in mind that colored line art is still usually pretty dark, more like tinted black rather than bright colors. It just helps ease the weight of contours.
