Description Ridley, one of the most controversial and most wanted newcomers.

I won't cover the pro-Ridley arguments, as they are far too numerous. He is the most necessary character. Metroid needs it's villain and there is no one more fitting of that title than Ridley.

He is the only important character left from the Metroid series. Murder of Samus's parents and her eternal enemy. He always showing up to disrupt her missions, dying and being reborn over and over again.

The most common argument against his inclusion is "lol he's too big". He is not too big. The "too big" meme started in the pre-Brawl days and it's still going today in most SSB communities.

I changed his proportions in the picture just to prove one point. Bowser's Brawl design was completely new at the time. It was similar to his design from Mario Galaxy1, but not exact. Sheik's design was also made from scratch. This could hold true for Ridley. If his proportions bug you, maybe Sakurai will just tweak those proportions a bit?
Like so, smaller wings and tail. Looking closer to his sprite-versions. His wings would expand as he jumped, not too large, but large enough that they might look right for his size. The tail would be kinda small during passive poses, but when attacking with the tail, it would extend out, then retract to this size after the animation.

I'm sure that no one in their right mind thinks that he simply cannot be playable, because of his size. I refuse to believe that someone could use a computer, yet be that retarded. I instead choose to believe that those who claim that he is too big, are simply repeating said meme for lulz. Works out best for everyone involved.

Take note that any comment preaching the "Too Big" meme will be hidden.

Feel free to discuss any other pros/cons though.

While Ridley is a good choice, apparently the "Too Big" thing is also Sakurai's reason why Ridley's not in it

I agree Ridley deserves to be on the Roster more then a lot of characters

more then the Villager, the Wii fit Trainer, more then Mega man if you ask me

I'm not saying I'm mad about any of these characters being in the new game, I'm just saying Ridley should have been a bigger priority then them.

RIDLEY IN SSB4 FTW!!!

I know he's a great boss in Super Smash Bros Brawl in Adventure Mode, but that's a great idea about Newcomer in SSB4!

I do wonder about Ridley's eligibility for Super Smash Bros., but the argument that Metroid needs a playable villain character may not hold water. The other series, other than Mario and Zelda, don't have playable villains even if some of the villains might be able to fit. They just get more heroic characters in Brawl like Diddy Kong and Lucas. Why not other heroic or neutral Metroid characters like Rundas, Noxus, or Spire? Is it even necessary for all the series to have playable villains?

Because their One Shot Ponies

Ridley has been in the Series since Metroid 1 and means more to the Fan base then Rundas or any of the other Hunters (Heck Rundas is the only one that might even have a shot, but the closest thing he would get is his theme nothing more nothing less)

the only other thing that has been in more games besides Samus is the Metroids themselves.

If they put another Metroid Character in, It's going to be Ridley, No Ifs, ands, or Buts about it.

It isn't necessary for each series to have it's villain, but generally, I feel that every series with a Villain as important as Ganon/Bowser should get repped. The series you are referring to SHOULD get a playable villain if one exists to fill that role.

Sakurai seems to prefer Rivals over Villains, as evident by his treatment of the DK, Mother, and Star Fox series. If he follows this preference in the next game, we will probably get another "good" racer as the F-Zero rep instead of a Villain like Black Shadow.

K-rool, Mewtwo, Captain-Syrup, Kamek, Black Shadow, and Porky are all more than welcome. I just want more villains.

Series like Fire Emblem/Pikmin don't have a reoccurring/important Villain, so they should be limited to heroes/rivals.

Ridley is the single most important entity left in the Metroid series. His role in the games surpasses that of most villains, despite him never actually being the final boss. He isn't a true villain like those that seek the destruction of the world or to rule, but something different. He is more of a personal villain for Samus, rather than a villain to her universe/series. His personal vendetta against Samus never ends. He already has power as a commander of the space pirates and has nothing further to gain from killing Samus, than to fulfill his wishes to see her dead. His role is a more personal role than we see with most Hero/Villain relationships.

The hunters from MP3 and MPH only appeared in one game each. They have little to no relevance in the series, being filler npcs. If they appear in a future game, they should be considered, but at this point, there is no real reason to go sticking 1-shot characters in. Even if they did pick a 1-shot character, Adam would be more likely than any of the hunters, due to his important to the story.

I file him under "doubtful"

Especially since he was a boss in Brawl, twice.
But they did kinda make Giga Bowser playable so who knows.

I think the biggest hurdle would be to make him work seamlessly, and not look awkward.

Personally I would want Rundas as a new Metroid char. Need more ice characters.

Ah, ain't I'm tired of people actually using the "he's too big" argument against him. Apparently they forgotten Olimar is the size of a dime in his game, so size isn't a issue.

I'm sure most of the people who say he's too big did not realize what you did. I was actually thinking "he's too big" when reading the first three lines of your rant, but after I read the points you made I believe you are correct, they could very easily change his proportions.
