Would you say that Zim's attempts to conquer earth have failed because of him being super unlucky, stupid, or just too damn crazy and overzealous about his work? I know he's smart enough to outwit Dib and to invent all manner of destructive alien super weapons and what not, so I'm not sure it be fair to call him dumb (gullible perhaps since the Tallests tricked him into thinking they had entrusted him with a secret mission, lol). I'd say he just goes overboard with the DOOM aspect of his work, what do you think?

Oh, Zim is smart. Scary smart, to invent half of the shit he tries to take over the world with. But he's ill-equipped to deal with most situations. He's clumsy, overeager, and yes, extremely gullible. He's not entirely unlucky, though. The fact that the whole world can't see through his flimsy disguises, or that he hasn't killed himself a thousand times over with his mad schemes, is a show of just how lucky he can be. Dib, though, he's unlucky, and like Zim, just too overeager, which is why people don't like him.
