Description So the short story goes like this. This was a commission for a private client who requested a bot heavily influenced by g1 cliffjumper. I designed it to borrow from the vehicle the original toy was based off of with multiple points of articulation in the bot mode. The Porsche is in 1/32 scale which puts cliffjumper at about 5.25" tall (about 135mm). He comes equipped with guns based off of various episodes from the MTME and his idw's spotlight spear. This version was printed by shapeways in ultra detail and some of the internal components were printed in black/strong/flexible. Because most of him is printed in ultra detail, he's pretty fragile. He was painted with modelmaster acrylics and enamels, and tamiya paints. I still have some cleaning up to do and add some final touches. when I do so I'll give a full photoshoot with alt mode, action poses, group shots, etc. In the end, this was not what the client had in mind so cliffjumper will be sitting on my shelf with the rest of my bots. This is why i'm making these images public now. I would like to thank the client for some extremely valuable experience and best wishes.

YES, you gave him the Big ass gun he had in the first episode!

I personally like Cliffjumper, so this is cool to see a custom like this with all of those details

Hasbro needs to hire you

Cliffy came out great Ninos, you really managed to get the feel and proportions of the little bot without the SD car, looking forward to the vehicle mode

This is great! How are you not working for Hasbro/ Takara yet? I'd love to see something like this on the shelves at my local toy store! Good job!

Wow. I really like the way the paneling folds around onto the inside of the feet.

How did you do the joints? Metal pins, or printed bump/dip plastic?

WheelJack-S70 In reply to Geminii27 [2012-06-04 01:43:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, everything is printed with a 3d printer and then screws, pins and ball joints hold it all together.

I'd be incredibly interested to know more about sourcing/creating pins and how to integrate them with printed parts. Do you just use leftover pins from other projects, or make new ones, or buy them in bulk somewhere?

WheelJack-S70 In reply to Geminii27 [2012-06-04 12:46:41 +0000 UTC]

I've taken enough toys apart to have tons of pins and screws separated in little jars. I don't know where one would get them. If I find out, I'll let you know

Geminii27 In reply to WheelJack-S70 [2012-06-04 14:28:32 +0000 UTC]

Bulk lots of busted toys, I'd imagine. Do you make the 3D printed pin-holes much smaller than the pins themselves, and heat them to push them through, or do you make them about the same diameter?

WheelJack-S70 In reply to Geminii27 [2012-06-04 17:16:31 +0000 UTC]

If I make the holes in 3d, I make them the same size. I haven't messed with heating pins cuz I don't know the material very well.

Perfect modernisation of G1 but still with that touch of realism.
Beautiful feel to the whole piece like an Alternator taken to the ultimate degree.

thanks. not sure hasbro would revisit the 80's. takara on the other hand seems to be all about it lately with their new MP announcements.

Hasbro seems more interested in milking Bumblebee to death while forcing mechtech down people's throats. Takara tends to over charge while not bothering with quality control.

I don't bite the hand that feeds my toy obsession. if they don't make what I want, I turn around and make what I want using bits and pieces of what's available on the shelf.

I don't have the knack for customising, otherwise I would have made ones I'm very interested in by now.

I understand but a little effort goes along way with this hobby. We all started out with mistakes. Either way, I think all of your dream characters will come out in some shape or form. I just think that has/tak is trying to spread out their releases. kind of sucks but whatchya gonna do?

ReinaHW In reply to WheelJack-S70 [2012-06-04 17:28:39 +0000 UTC]

With so few being released here in the UK, then it's hard to see what their plan is when all we get is Bumblebee and his many repaints.
