History:

Caleb grew up as an only child. His younger days were quite lonely as his parents were always out and about working. They tried to give him everything that they thought he would want, but it was always material things. More often than not, he was left home alone with games and toys to entertain himself. For a while it worked and he was always very satisfied. However, this changed when he saw how warm and close other families were. He started wondering why his parents were hardly ever home and why he couldn't even carry a decent conversation with either of them. They always asked how his day was and how his classes were, but nothing beyond that. He had friends at school, but of course they couldn't spend all their time with him. So Caleb eventually began picking up drawing. He doodled on any sheet of paper that had blank space on it, drawing everything and anything he could lay his eyes on. When his parents noticed his new hobby, they began showering him with sketchbooks and art supplies. He was grateful for that, but it really didn't do much to ease his loneliness.

His magic ability showed itself one day, when he was sitting on the couch, drawing some birds outside on the tree. Several of them were gathered on a branch, chirping merrily together and he deeply and wistfully wished he wasn't by himself. He watched them for a couple of minutes and when he looked back down at his sketchbook, the page was completely empty. Caleb was incredibly confused, for he was certain that he had drawn the birds. For a few moments, he was terrified that he had gone crazy. But then two birds fluttered down from out of no where to sit down on the edge of his sketchbook. They weren't like any birds he had seen before. Their bodies were made up of black sketchy lines and he could see right through them. It was only when he looked closer that he realized that they were his drawings. Come to life. They kept him company for a while before disappearing.

After that, he spent all of his free time bringing his drawings to life. The first few weeks were hard, as he couldn't figure out how he had done it the first time. There were many failed attempts. Sometimes nothing happened, sometimes half a sketch came to life and other times, they only stuck around for a few minutes. However, Caleb did not give up and tried every single day to gain proper control over his new skill. When he finally got a grasp on it, he would always be accompanied by an animal doodle whenever he was home alone. Even if for a brief amount of time, they were real, warm and solid under his touch. Shortly after, he received a mysterious letter in the mail. Logically, anyone would've thrown it out. It could easily be seen as a joke, nothing more. But Caleb couldn't quite bring himself to chuck it. The letter sat on his desk for a few days until one night he picked it up again, reading the words over and over again. And then the words slipped out. Open my heart.
