Description
00: The Fool
It's night time in Default Island. Most digimon and tamers in Arcana Village are asleep and the areas around it are mostly silent.
However, in Captcha Woods, there's a teenage boy, lying unconscious on the ground, not even moving an inch. But then, he hears a voice.
"Hey! Can you wake up? Hello? HELLO!!!" the voice said.
The boy slowly wakes up from unconsciousness and sees what's in front of him. A pink hairless ball with big red eyes, staring at him.
"Yay! You're finally awake!" the pink ball said, "So, how exactly did you end up out here?"
"WAH!" the boy jumped and screamed out of fear, "Wh-Who and what are you!?"
The pink ball, being excited of the boy being awake said "You don't need to be afraid of me. I mean no harm, I promise, I promise!"
"I'm Koromon by the way!" the pink ball said while he jumped to the boy, landed on his chest, "What's your name?"
"My name?" the boy asked. "Well, if you really want to know my name, my name is-. Wait. My name is-, my name is-. Why can't I remember my name!?"
"What's the matter?" Koromon asked as he's looking at the boy confused.
"I can't remember my name!" the boy said, "I don't know what's going on, but no matter how hard I try, I can't remember my name!"
"Really? You don't? But what about the metal thing you have around your neck? Does it say anything?" Koromon asked as he points with his antennas(?) at the necklace around the boys neck.
Didn't realize he had a necklace, he tries to look at the necklace if it says anything.
"It's too dark." the boy said, "I can't see if it says anything."
The boy then looks at Koromon, bending down and asks "Excuse me, but you know a way out of the place? I don't know how I got there or how to get out."
Before Koromon got the chance to answer the boy's question, the whole ground suddenly started to rumble at a high level.
As soon as Koromon noticed a crack right under the boy, he screamed "LOOK OUT!" and tackled the boy to avoid the massive monster with a drill for a nose that came out of the ground and tried to attack him.
"WH-WHAT IS THAT?" said the boy out of fear when he saw the monster out of ground.
"That's Drimogemon ! They are normally shy by nature, but something is definitely wrong with it." said Koromon as he's pointing out the creepy glitch-like affect Drimogemon has over it's entire body.
They both see Drimogemon slowly turn it's head toward them with it's drill still spinning at full speed. "Um, Koromon?" the boy started to ask, "About the question I ask about how to getting out."
"Just grab me and run! I'll give you directions!" screamed Koromon as the boy started to grab him and run for they dare life, nearly avoided Drimogemon's Drill Spin attack.
As they run through the forest away from Drimogemon, Koromon gave the boy directions where to go and turn. When Koromon said left, the boy turn left. When Koromon said right, the boy turn right. They haven't spend much time with each other and yet, they act as if they are completely in sync with each other. As soon as they started to see light, they rushed towards it and finally gets out of the forest! ...Only to be on the edge of a cliff. All they could see in the dark night was what appeared to be a temple that stood high above the tree line with a glowing crystal atop it.
"Damn!" the boy yelled to himself. He tries to run back to take a different path, but Drimogemon had already caught up and is blocking the only path away from the cliff.
Realize they both stuck, Koromon jumped from the boy's arm and did the only thing he can do at that moment, attack. ...With bubbles. To no suprise, the attack did no damage to Drimogemon.
"Koromon! What are you doing!?" the boy as he runs and tries to protect Koromon by grabbing him before Drimogemon attacks them by swinging his drill at them.
Landed on the ground from the attack, Koromon sees how the boy's lying unconscious on the ground by the impact of the attack and Drimogemon's slowly walking towards the boy. Refusing to let the boy die after he tried to save him, Koromon rushed back to try to protect the boy from an another attack.
But as soon as Koromon jumped and landed in front of the body of the boy, he's whole body started to glow. And grow. Suddenly, Koromon went from being a small pink hairless ball to become a 4 feet tall yellow dinosaur.
"PEPPER BREATH!" he called out as he releases a fiery breath from its mouth, but like the bubble attack from before, the attack did very little damage to Drimogemon.
Despite this, he continued to attack until the boy slowly woke up and saw what's going on. At first, the boy was scared as he thought that he accidentally got in the middle of a turf war between two monsters. But when he sees the yellow dinosaur attack at Drimogemon with his fire breath, he noted how he voice sounded familiar to him.
"Koromon?" the boy asked, unsure if it was really him as he can't recognize him because of the massive chance in apperance.
"I'm Agumon now, but we don't really have time to talk!" said Koromon in his new form, "Do you see the temple above the tree line? That's Arcana Village! You need to go there, now!"
The boy looked at the village, seeing the sun starting to rise up behind the temple as Agumon continues to use fire attacks at Drimogemon with no success.
"Wait, you want me to run without you? I can't do that!" the boy said, "I can't just leave you behind with that monster that's trying to kill you!"
Agumon tries again to attack Drimogemon again, but he has become so tired that he can't shoot more fire attacks anymore, now becoming completely defenseless. When the boy sees that what was happening, he grabbed Agumon's arm and tries to run away while Drimogemon goes for an attack by grabbing a over-sized fossil and tosses it at the two of them.
But before the attack got to land, a tall knight-like figure jumped in front of the boy and Agumon and called out. "BERSERK SWORD!" The tall knight swings its sword like a berserker, cutting the fossil in two with a single stroke, successfully saved the two from the fatal attack. Not long after, two smaller sized knight ran past them to stand along side the taller knight to fight against Drimogemon. However, instead of attacking back, Drimogemon decided to dig and leave, most likely thinking it would lose in a 3 vs 1 fight.
Knowing that the fight is finally over, the tall knight turn around and asked "Are you two okay? Any serious injuries?"
The boy was unsure at first if he should say anything as he doesn't know them, but since they saved him and Agumon, he decided to talk. "Uh, not really. I mean that thing swung his drill at me and it still hurts, but I think I'm fine?"
"But more importantly. Koromon, what happened to you?" the boy said when he looked at Agumon. "You went from being a pink ball to this, what's going-?"
"Hold it!" the tall knight interrupted before the boy got to finish his sentence. "Did he called you Koromon just now? Are you the In-training digimon that Sistermon said they found out were missing this morning?"
Agumon realized that they found out what he did, so he told them the truth. "Uh... Yeah, It was me."
"Do you realize how much great danger you put yourself in for doing that!?" said the tall knight to Agumon with concern. "You could have gotten yourself seriously injured or worse, even getting killed by the champion level digimon that have been driven mad by the firewall! You should have known that before you ran off!"
Agumon looked irritably at the tall knight when he said that. But because Agumon have nothing to say back at him without it coming out as a bad excuse, he then stare at the ground upset knowing that Sistermon must have been worrying about him.
"My apologizes for interrupting you, our savior." the tall knight said as he changes the subject by talking to the boy. "We heard from the members of Back Up Village that someone went missing, we just want to make sure he along with you were unharmed."
"Wait, savior? You mean me?" the boy looked at the tall knight. "What are you talking about? Who are you?"
The three knights walked forward, the tall one lowered in front of the boy and Agumon onto a knee. “I am Knightmon. I and the PawnChessmon have been sent by my fair lady Taromon to find you wayward tamers and bring you to Arcana Village to meet with her.”
"So, Knightmon? Okay. So, um... You said you knew Koro- I mean, Agumon, right?" the boy asked. "If so, can you please tell me what exactly is he? And where are we?"
“Ah, yes. Lady Taromon did state that your tamers may not be familiar with our world. Agumon over here is a digimon just as the creature who chased you, myself and the PawnChessmon here.” The PawnChessmon saluted to attention as Knightmon explained. “As for where you are. You are currently in the Captcha Woods, of Default Island, in the Protocol server."
"A digiwhat?" the boy said in confusion as he has never heard of a digimon before.
Knightmon continued to explain. "Agumon is one of the many creatures that call their place home. We call ourselves Digimon: Digimon Monsters. You are currently in the Digital World."
As soon as Knightmon finished talking, the boy felt a rain drop. Looking up, everyone saw how the clouds were big, gray and started to raining.
Knightmon stood up and told the boy, “I understand you have many questions… These questions can and will be answered by Lady Taromon in Arcana Village. Please, allow me to escort you there. Agumon, you too come with us.”
While the boy and Agumon tries to get to Village of Arcana with Knightmon leading the way and the PawnChessmon guarding the surrounding area, the boy gave his blue jacket to Agumon as protection. He knew that his jacket is too small for him, but the boy just wanted to cheer him up and stop him from getting too cold from the rain.
When they finally reached Arcana Village, Knightmon stopped in front of the Asian-styled temple, the same temple the boy saw from the cliff earlier. “Here we are, Lady Taromon’s temple. She is most likely waiting for you, so just enter."
The boy looked to the tent entrance then to Knightmon. "You coming?"
Knightmon raised his hand and shook his head. “No. This is just between you saviors and her.”
"Ok... But can I at least have Agumon with me?" the boy asked to Knightmon. "I just don't want him to get cold from the rain."
Knightmon looked at Agumon then to the boy and nodded with no words.
"Thank you." The boy smiled and bowed to Knightmon before he and Agumon walked into the cloth tent.
As the two of them stepped in, they went farther in the room until they saw a low table with a crystal ball and cushions around it. The boy's looking around cautiously, the only light seemed to be the glow of high placed crystals and the ball in the middle of the room. The boy stopped in his track though as a cloth parted from the back.
"How odd." said a calm, mysterious voice. "Normally I would know our saviors name due to the cards, but strangely I'm not getting anything from the tamer today."
The boy looked around, trying to see where the voice come from. "Um... Hello?" the boy said, hoping the one speaking would hear him.
"Oh! Pardon me." the calm voice heard. "I was speaking to myself."
From the opening came a large digimon, well over ten feet despite its appearance being one of only a female torso. “Welcome, I am Taromon.” Taromon floated closer to the crystal ball and motioned for the two to join her. “Please, have a seat so I may explain more.”
The boy took a seat, sitting with his legs crossed while Agumon's sitting with both legs out. "So. If I understand it correctly, You're the one that brought me here?"
“Well, more correctly, the crystals did.” Taromon explained as she held out her hand, within it was a bright rainbow tinted crystal, much like the ones a top her temple. “This is a data crystal… These were sent out to bring humans here with or to find their digimon partners.”
“But why…?” the boy asked. “Why would they bring me here? I don’t really know anything at all. I'm nothing but a blank slate.” He glanced away in admittance.
"How so?" Taromon asked in surprise over hearing the boy say that to himself.
"He dosen't know his own name." Agumon said, trying to help the boy by telling what happened. "When I first met him, I asked him earlier about his name and he don't remember anything."
"What a shame." Taromon said with a slight concern. "Looks like you might had hit you head a little too hard when you were sent to the Protocol server."
"Maybe your necklace can something about you." Taromon said as she's noticed the boy had a necklace around his neck.
Having almost completely forgot about the necklace, the boy pulled up his necklace to see what is says. At first, he saw numbers; "09/03". Figured that wasn't his name, he turned it around and finally saw text.
"Does it say anything?" Agumon asked, trying to lean towards the boy to look at the necklace. "What does it say?"
"It says... Alex." the boy said while reading the text.
"Does the name remind you of anything?" Taromon asked the boy.
The boy looked at Taromon and shook his head, as the name dosen't ring any bells to him. he doesn't recognize
"Oh well. I guess you have to make some new memories." Taromon smiled softly to the tamer. “Anyhow, about the data crystal that I mentioned earlier. As someone who believes in the crystal’s judgement, they were sent to bring back who they thought would be best to save this world.”
"Me? Saving the world?" the boy said with a raised eyebrow. "You're serious?"
"Aw come on! Don't be like that!" Agumon smiled and laughed while he's patted the boy's back. "Remember, Knightmon called you a savior. We are gonna be fine!"
"I see you're already getting excited to adventuring with your new friend." Taromon gave a soft chuckle while seeing Agumon's child-like demeanor. "Now before you two leave, I want to give you something that I give to all newborn tamers who arrive here."
Taromon brings her huge hand closer to the boy and Agumon, then she open her hand and reveals a small device to them.
"This is a D-Pendant digivice." Taromon explains. "It's a device that has multiple functions such as tracking location of your digimon partner, analyze and keep data information on digimon you met. But most importantly, it can read Digital Cards. Grab it and I'll explain more."
The boy grabbed the D-Pendant like Taromon told him to do while her hand waved over her crystal ball. As she did, the boy’s D-Pendant beeped and flashed. A data came from the crystal ball and formed a card. The card flew at the boy as he plucked it out of the air.
The boy and Agumon looked to the image on the card.
“Hey, that’s me!” Agumon stated, seeing himself on the card.
“This is a digital card. Digital cards can effect data here in the digital world. Everything from you appearance to your attacks. If you trade this card with someone else, they can use your partner’s attacks… And you can use there’s. No need to worry about trading it, you D-Pendant will create a new one of your partner when it needs to be replaced.”
“So, now what?” the boy asked as Agumon looked over the card.
“Kuromon sees over the bunkers. Go there and she will surely get you set up with a room.” Taromon explained. "If you two are unsure about anything, I'll always be here to answer whatever questions you might have."
“Ok, we let you know.” the boy put the card in his pocket as Agumon follows the boy like a shadow. “I know I didn't get all the answers I wanted, but thank you.”
Taromon smiled to the two. “No, thank you.”
When the boy and Agumon arrived at the bunkers, Kuromon was already there to show them to their room. As they followed Kuromon, they see other humans in the building, all the them having a digimon of their own. Some waved at the boy and Agumon, being happy to see new members. While others just stared at them and then quickly loses interest by looking away.
"Here we are! There's your room!" Kuromon explained as she opens the door to the room. "So, if ya got problems don't hesitate to ask me~"
As soon as Kuromon left, the boy closes the door while Agumon lands on the bed.
"Agumon, can we talk?" the boy asked. "There's something I want to ask."
"Sure thing, Alex!" Agumon said without thinking twice. "Um... Is it ok I call you that?"
"Whatever works for you." the boy said while he shrugged as he realize he'll be stuck with nicknames before he finds out what his real name is.
"Anyway, as I was about to ask." the boy continued. "You call yourself Agumon, right? But when I first met you, you called yourself Koromon."
"That's right!" Agumon happily replied. "That's because I digivolved!"
"So that's what you call the form change as?" Alex asked as he wants to make sure that he understood it correctly.
Agumon responded with a smile and a simple nod.
"Okay, then. Now, I don't know if you'll digivolve again or how often, so I wonder if you're ok with having a nickname." Alex explained. "Just so I know it's you, no matter what form you take."
"Oh, of course! Anything that makes it easier for you is fine by me." Agumon said. "So, have you come up with any good ones?"
"Well, let's see which one you like." Alex said as he tries to come up with a good nickname for Agumon.
"How about, Flame?" Alex suggested. Agumon shook his head.
"Chomper?" Alex continued. Agumon shook his head.
"Dino?" Alex continued. Agumon shook his head.
Realizing it's was harder than Alex thought it would be, he goes for his last suggestion.
"You called one of your attacks Pepper Breath, right? How about Pepper?" Alex asked.
"I like it." Agumon smiled and nodded.
"Pepper it is!" Alex smiled as he was happy that he could come up with nickname that both of them can agree on.
And thus, that's how Alex and Pepper's journey started.
