Description Commission!! Mary Jane and Peter Parker, sittin' in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G

Alright alright, I had to, I'm sorry This is a commission for *efa91 ! She wanted Peter and MJ together without him being in his Spiderman costume ^^ She's a huge fan of the movies, but I didn't copy them from it exactly. As you can see

I admit, I was never a huge fan of the movies. I like my super snarky Spiderman! Like the old TV show where it's basically a half hour of puns, it's epic XD Seriously from yesterday...

MJ: What do Spiderman and I have in common?
Peter: Uh...you both look great in skin tight outfits?

So I went for a mix of the the many many versions! With a flare of my own style...what do you think?

Most of my time on this piece was spent on the background I swear, lol. I was getting a little over excited But it at least looks a little like New York, right??

Aw, adorable!! The movies were fun, not AMAZING but silly entertainment. The tv show The Spectacular Spider-Man is GREAT for snarky!Spider-Man. I highly recommend. On a random Spidey fan note, I've been torn between MJ/Peter and Gwen/Peter. I grew up with MJ/Peter but then once I discovered Gwen...I've been shipping it more so.

Whisperwings In reply to ForeverACharmedOne [2012-03-26 07:54:11 +0000 UTC]

Lol I really need to watch the movies again, I admit And yay for snarky spiderman!

Well, I read that the guy making the comics never planned on MJ and Peter to be anything serious...but they got together in the tv show so he got them together in the comic books to match or something like that. So I guess we'll see, lol.

ForeverACharmedOne In reply to Whisperwings [2012-03-26 15:19:41 +0000 UTC]

Snarky Spider-Man makes everyday better. lol.

Gwen's death matured MJ in the comics and then she and Peter sort of bonded over their grief. I think I read that Gwen was killed because at the time the comic was running the writers didn't want Peter married and happy (because superheroes can't be happy. That just can't be done. lol) because it wouldn't be good drama but Spidey failing to save Gwen from the Green Goblin made pretty decent drama if I do say so myself...lol. I guess it's up to each fan's personal taste.

Whisperwings In reply to ForeverACharmedOne [2012-03-26 22:45:20 +0000 UTC]

He does XD

Oooooooooh makes sense! From what I read up earlier, MJ wasn't the type to settle down with anyone, even just dating...so it makes sense that she'd have to have a trigger to make her grow up in that way. I admit though, I know little to nothing about Gwen, lol.

ForeverACharmedOne In reply to Whisperwings [2012-03-27 01:46:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah MJ was a partaaaaaay girl for the longest time. No ball and chain for her. lol. I was motivated to learn more about Gwen after watching The Spectacular Spider-Man (hey look, I'm pimping it out again lol) and from what my google knowledge has told me, she was a scientist like Peter, and the daughter of the police captain. Some things I've seen online put MJ vs Gwen like this: Gwen loved Peter for his mind first. MJ took a while to love him for his mind. Something of that nature. I do still like MJ though. Gwen was Peter's rock, which is how she is on Spectacular Spider-Man. That amazing girl next door that's always there, waiting for the dumb hormonal teenage boy to realize her amazingness. lol.

LOL, I'm motivated by the new movie XD I was so confused when Gwen wasn't MJ at first! So i had to look things up

ForeverACharmedOne In reply to Whisperwings [2012-03-27 16:46:33 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha! I am very excited to see Gwen in the spotlight since she was Spidey's first love and she's been pretty much ignored since no one wanted to deal with her death I guess? I had never heard of her until the 3rd Spider-Man movie. Which really didn't do her justice. Though interestingly enough, the bridge Gobby threw her off of leading to her death has been used in other Spider-Man adaptations, like the Sam Raimi movies for MJ. MJ was thrown off the bridge in the first movie by the Goblin but Spidey catches her, as he does everywhere else. But the ONE time Gwen falls...she doesn't make it....Poor Gwen.

I think it's more because with MJ there's a happy ending and people like those. Also, they tend to like the wild redheads more than girl-next-door blonds

It's a great show. It's a real shame it was cancelled after two seasons. With the Marvel/Disney thing, they didn't want to deal with the copyright issues since the show began before it. But it is a WONDERFUL show that every Spidey fan should watch.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Eve-Francesca In reply to ForeverACharmedOne [2012-04-04 04:56:57 +0000 UTC]

I'll have to watch more of it when I have the time. I enjoyed what I saw of it, but I have a lot on my plate right now. I understand why they canceled it for copyright reasons, but it's still a pity regardless. Thanks for recommending it to me!

Although, one thing that I didn't like in SSM were the changes made to MJ's character. She seemed to lead Peter on and that bothered me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ForeverACharmedOne In reply to Eve-Francesca [2012-04-04 05:22:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh sure. I hope you enjoy it!

SSM's Mary-Jane was actually how she was originally in the comics. She was a party girl that didn't want to be tied down to anyone. It took time for her to mature. But yeah, her flightiness is one of her flaws that bugs me some, too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Eve-Francesca In reply to ForeverACharmedOne [2012-04-04 05:27:04 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

Ahh. I didn't know that. I guess I've become so accustomed to Film!MJ and her personality since that's what I was exposed to while growing up. I do like the idea of her being that way in the comics. It sure is interesting and one could say that it's very pro-feminist. It's good that she matured in the comics eventually and that she didn't mind being with Peter. How long did it take for her to mature and accept the idea of being in a relationship with Peter or with any man?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ForeverACharmedOne In reply to Eve-Francesca [2012-04-04 22:51:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah Sam Raimi's Film!Mary-Jane was the only real MJ I knew (besides the 90s cartoon) until I started looking more into Spider-Man comics. From what I've read, it took her a LONG time. Even after she and Peter were together lol. Her first real "wake up call" was when she broke up with Harry Osborn and as a result Harry turned to drugs, which then led to Norman Osborn going insane and becoming the GG again. Secondly and possibly the biggest was when Gwen Stacy, Spidey's first true love and MJ's best friend, was killed by the Green Goblin. It was actually that shared grief that brought them together.

"man, you put so much more effort into your backgrounds than me, you're so silly"
.........................Should I slap you now or what ? Your background is just LOVE girl !! Look at all the details, the little bridge is just gahh love it so, and the water and the trees...the TREE are horrible to draw for me and yours look just like...well trees ! And just for that, I give you all my respect
Mary Jane is just so beautiful here !! I love her hair and her outfit and her eyes !! She is wonderful Peter, I love his legs, don't know why and his hair too
that's a great pic I think, I looooooooove it
P.S: the little dialogue between MJ and Peter is just pure win hahahaha

I put effort into them sometimes!! Just not always I'd rather you not slap me at all please!

But thank you!! I really really like this one XD I did have a reference, which helped Trees are incredibly sneakily hard to draw!

Mary Jane is a blast! i may have to draw her more, sultry redheads are too much fun XD

LOL best part was, it was actually on the show!

Well, it's still hard to use a reference Sometimes I try but it just looks so yucky haha
yeah they're such a pain in the ass haha Hate doing them !

I never draw her, but you make me want to I looove redheads that's why I'm so into Harry Potter I'm such a Weasley nerd

And no prob hunny

Whisperwings In reply to GildingofNightfall [2012-03-27 14:27:10 +0000 UTC]

Lol, if you go into the thing planning a sloppy background, I find it's easier. Then you end up surprising yourself rather than disappointing yourself And you can always say you did it on purpose cuz you wanted the focus to be on the characters XD And i don't line my BGs...then I don't have to make it too perfect

I haven't drawn her before myself...I jus love that vibrant orange hair! And agreed, Weasley's a perfect for that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GildingofNightfall In reply to Whisperwings [2012-03-28 03:20:02 +0000 UTC]

Haha so true ! Every time I try to draw a BG without lines, that sucks so I stop doing it maybe when I will improve Since there, I just gonna say I do it on purpose....lol

I know, and I really think that she is wonderful the way you drew her ! It's kinda hard to capture a chars so well the first time. I know that I had to draw Ginny like a billion time before to be satisfied of her design...Same with Ron.

Whisperwings In reply to GildingofNightfall [2012-03-29 02:51:46 +0000 UTC]

Eve-Francesca [2012-03-25 23:25:39 +0000 UTC]

As for you not liking the movies, that's totally cool. You're accustomed to Snarky!Spiderman the same way that I'm accustomed to AkwardandSensitive!Spiderman. It has to do with what we grew up seeing. That like, builds our biases. Although, Peter can be snarky in the films at times. It tends to happen when he's suited up as Spidey because I think he feels more confident then. I'm guessing he's more confident overall in the 90s animated series...? I wouldn't know because I haven't seen much of it.

I love the dialogue that you came up with for MJ and Peter. That literally made me laugh out loud. That's clever and cute.

Thanks againnn!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Whisperwings In reply to Eve-Francesca [2012-03-26 05:06:26 +0000 UTC]

Yup yup, exactly! i totally don't mind that we all have a different spiderman, it's actually kinda cool XD

Now we just have to see how they make the new one! I'm excited XD

LOL I didn't even come up with it that was actually in the show! A show for kids! It was hilarious XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Eve-Francesca In reply to Whisperwings [2012-04-04 04:50:43 +0000 UTC]

It is pretty cool. I like that Spiderman has different personalities in the different adaptations. That makes things interesting and provides variety.

Did you see my question about Peter in the 90s animated series? I asked if he seemed more confident overall. Ya know, since he's a bit more insecure in the films and I wanted to compare the two based on your knowledge of his personality in the "old" cartoon.

That is EPIC!! I can't believe that was put in a show for kids. Cartoons were SO cool before we Americans started getting all censorship crazy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Whisperwings In reply to Eve-Francesca [2012-04-04 18:08:46 +0000 UTC]

It does indeed, and lets people get creative XD So many people hate when movies don't folow the comics or whatever...but when it comes to Spiderman there are so many different types it's ridiculous!

Whoops, missed that! But yes, in this show, he's very confident, a bigger guy rather than a skinny one (I don't think they knew how to draw skinny guys back then, lol). And super cocky, all the time. He gets the girls and was avoiding meeting MJ because he was told she had a "great personality" which he thinks is code for ugly And puns. A single show has more puns than most movies o.O

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Eve-Francesca In reply to Whisperwings [2012-04-04 18:30:23 +0000 UTC]

It really does. People who hate when movies don't follow the comics are just butthurt and they're canon purists. I've never been a big fan of canon purists. I never responded kindly to people who criticized the hell out of Film!Harry/Ginny and the way that their relationship was portrayed in the films. It always made me want to facepalm. Different from the books does not equal bad.

Anyway, yes, there are many different adaptations of Spiderman. That just serves to make things more fun for different types of fans.

That's okay! That sounds pretty awesome. Yeah, in the cartoon Spectacular Spiderman, Peter was the same way about MJ. He was told about her "great personality," but avoided meeting her because he thought that meant that she was ugly. The puns sound really cool too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Whisperwings In reply to Eve-Francesca [2012-04-04 18:36:44 +0000 UTC]

LOL, well i criticized the film!harry/ginny relationship because it felt super forced to me, was very awkward, and Ginny was often kind of a creeper But at least I have a good reason for it more than it being different from the books

yes, it's quite an entertaining show if you can stand the bad jokes XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Eve-Francesca In reply to Whisperwings [2012-04-04 18:41:49 +0000 UTC]

Lol. Well, that's a bit different. I can see why you thought it was forced and awkward at times. (Although there were some scenes that I liked.) Their relationship wasn't developed as well as it could've been in the films. Yeah, those are much better reasons than what other people had.

Sounds like it. I've only seen a few episodes of it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Whisperwings In reply to Eve-Francesca [2012-04-04 23:54:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...it was just so hard to fit in relationship building between all the main plot drama they had to put in! I think they should make the books into a TV show, one season per book

it's a blast
