Description Cuz that's all this whole piece is really XD My new tablet came today! Perhaps some of you have seen the Monoprice Tablet post on tumblr...and holy crap, let me back up those reviews. This tablet is just as good as my Wacom Bamboo if not better! It feels sturdier, the pressure sensitivity is beautifully smooth, and there's no less than 24 buttons you can customize however you like! I kept most of mine the same, there's buttons to undo and redo and open word and cut and paste and open the internet and save ad zoom in and out...all built in! All I changed was to make one 'Ctrl' and one on the side buttons 'Undo' cuz it's easier for me to hit from there.

And best of all? It cost me $58. That's it! I could buy four of these tablets for the price of a new Bamboo!

So for those of you looking into possibly getting a tablet but you don't want to spend a ton of money? This is seriously the way to go Heck, if you're looking into a new tablet period, this is a good way to go!

And in the midst of my spiel, enjoy Lissy being pretty

I'm not sure which version it is, but so far it's great!

I do not know how you do everything digitally, wow.

Practice, lol. Honestly, at this point, digital sketching is easier for me than traditional stuff ^^

I just... ugh, it's hard!! The learning curve is hard, especially since I'm so much better at traditional.

Also I keep trying to figure out what program I wanna use, and confusing myself.

Whisperwings In reply to 11th-Memory [2013-02-17 01:28:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, it takes practice obviously. I think digital is more forgiving, since you can move things around and resze them. So even while you're learning, you're creating stuff you can be happy with ^^ With traditional, once you screw up, there's not usually a lot you can d but start over >.>

Well, if you're going into drawing, I'd reccomend SAI. it's designed for digital drawing and painting, unlike photoshop which was made for editing photos. Obviously both work. but SAI has the line art tool, which i would die without! It's a speciel layer, you draw the line, and then while holding ctrl you can move the line around until it's perfect!

11th-Memory In reply to Whisperwings [2013-02-17 22:20:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but it's hard because I feel like I have to relearn everything. My pen isn't directly on the drawing.

Okay, so SAI is awesome, but it's not made for Mac, so I have to use a wine wrapper, and that means no pen pressure. Also, it kept crashing on me and I had to quit using it. Photoshop doesn't crash. It makes me sad.

Whisperwings In reply to 11th-Memory [2013-02-20 03:11:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but it gets easier with practice ^^ I just use mine for everything. i don't even use a mouse anymore, I just use my tablet, lol.

I'm not sure what you mean by wine wrapper o.O

It's a thing that allows PC programs to be used on my Mac. I don't really know how it works. It worked okay for GIMP but SAI kept crashing.

I LOVE the leg crossing over. Your hand articulation is really good. That's a hard thing to do consistently!

That's good to know, too, about the tablet. Monoprice. I'm definitely one who would someday want a better tablet but doesn't care about the best name brand. I have an old Wacom now and while it's good for my skills, I'm sure an updated one would be nice and better.

Yeah...you should be able to see her other knee and her other shoe, but I was too lazy to add them by the time I realized what was bugging me ^^ Cuz they're not crossed

ErikRoger In reply to Whisperwings [2013-02-07 06:40:34 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, I see it now. It still works, though. It looks like her right leg is crossed over into the foreground and her left leg is under and tucked behind her.

"Ten points from Ravenclaw for having your shirt untucked!"

Never sit around looking languid where Professor Snape can see you.

Whisperwings In reply to janach [2013-02-07 02:17:19 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I don't think even Snape would do that though He doesn't have a grudge against Ravenclaws like he does the Gryffindors.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

janach In reply to Whisperwings [2013-02-07 03:20:55 +0000 UTC]

You're right. Snape would take ten points for a sloppy shirt from a Gryffindor, but from a Ravenclaw he'd take only five. After all, Slytherin and Ravenclaw are Sister Houses.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Whisperwings In reply to janach [2013-02-07 04:11:34 +0000 UTC]

I don't think he'd take points for a sloppy shirt at all. Most of the teachers were perfectly cool about it, letting the kids wear the uniforms as they saw fit. Umbridge was the only one who ever seemed to care about that type of thing.

janach In reply to Whisperwings [2013-02-07 06:37:53 +0000 UTC]

It's a generational thing. For Lissy, having her shirt hanging out from under her sweater is stylish, but I'm close to Snape's age and to me it just looks slobbish. Snape expects his Slytherins to dress sharp, as a matter of House pride. He probably chews out his Slytherins for sloppy dressing, deducts points from Gryffs whenever he sees it, and deducts somewhat fewer points from the other two Houses only when he happens to be in a particularly bad mood. Beware of Snape on migraine days!

Whisperwings In reply to janach [2013-02-07 06:43:29 +0000 UTC]

I dunno, he let Draco walk around with his shirt untucked a whole bunch, and he was the suck up

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

janach In reply to Whisperwings [2013-02-07 09:00:30 +0000 UTC]

Did he? In the books? I don't remember it ever being mentioned, but I could easily have forgotten.

Well, Draco was a Slytherin and the son of one of Snape's fellow Death Eaters, so he got away with a lot, at least publicly. Slytherin discipline stayed in-House.

Whisperwings In reply to janach [2013-02-07 10:59:11 +0000 UTC]

I don't think they talked about it at all. They didn't even mention uniforms at the school at all really. All the cover art had them in normal clothes with robes over them.

Yay! Lissy's back!
I have been thinking about posibly getting a tablet, but I just don't know. I tried my brother's bamboo and it just wasn't for me. But I really want to try digital drawing and coloring and this is way more in my price range, so I just may reconsider a tablet again!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Whisperwings In reply to EmilynnQuinn [2013-02-06 17:02:26 +0000 UTC]

When you first start with a tablet it's confusing, I know >.< It took me quite a while to figure out what I was doing. But practice makes perfect! When I first got my tablet, I thought I wouldn't use it much, and look at me now. Digital has taken over XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EmilynnQuinn In reply to Whisperwings [2013-02-06 17:53:45 +0000 UTC]

Yes, practice does make perfect. I mainly draw traditional and the other thing that's making me hesitate about buying a tablet is that I'm not 100% sure if I want to change my medium or not. I know I could still do both, but I'm just not sure. I'm so indecisive these days, lol. We'll see when the summer gets closer though. That's when I actually have money to spend cause of my summer jobs and all.

Whisperwings In reply to EmilynnQuinn [2013-02-07 05:40:08 +0000 UTC]

Good plan! And if you go for a cheaper tablet like this one, then you'll have a good tablet to try without going completely broke!

Yes and if it's as good a tablet as more expensive ones then everything works out peachy. Yay for peaches, haha.

Oookay so I know which tablet I'm ordering now
Oh I saw some stuff from Wacom though, when I'll be rich, I'll get them... A tablet which is also your computer screen, so you basically draw on your screen, plus it's enormous. A pen that registers what you draw on paper and sends it to your computer. And a ton of dreamy stuff like that... OH, WHEN I'LL BE RICH...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Whisperwings In reply to MadoMagie [2013-02-06 12:20:23 +0000 UTC]

I actually don't really want one of those, lol. They'd be cool, but at the same time, I NEVER sit at a desk while drawing. I prefer something portable and durable like a tablet that I can hold in my lap while I work ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MadoMagie In reply to Whisperwings [2013-02-06 14:07:57 +0000 UTC]

I do like to have it on my lap, too ! But I think when you're a professionnal and have to keep a good position all day so you won't have to hurt your back or anything. Plus, you can bend it any way you like, or take it off and put it on your lap (though it's bigger and probably heavier than a normal tablet). Anyway, I'm not a pro so I wouldn't have the use of it, and I can't afford it anyway, it just looked dreamy xD
PS : my mom is okay to order me the new tablet, I'll pay her back, but I couldn't've done it without her lending me her card xD So we'll do that tonight, hopefully in a few days I can draw digitally again, hurray !!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Whisperwings In reply to MadoMagie [2013-02-07 05:41:39 +0000 UTC]

Technically you're supposed to, but I never do XD Sitting up straight is weird and uncomfortable! though with the back problems my dad has, I should really sit properly more often...

I think I'd be scared of scratching the screen and then it being super expensive to get fixed >.<

Hurrayness!! New tablets are exciting!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MadoMagie In reply to Whisperwings [2013-02-08 00:08:29 +0000 UTC]

Nor do I, don't even sit at my desk anymore... My bed is just a lot more comfy xD (and less flooded with stuff and mess...)
Uh, yeah, you're right... I hadn't thought of the scratches, but I guess it must be very expensive to fix Oo But then again, when it's for your work, I think you get to be more careful with it, and not use it like you do at home. Or it depends, if you're alone in a studio or with other people in an office, I don't know... I'm not sure I ever will, either xD If one day in a future job I get to work with that kind of stuff, I'll tell you !

Whisperwings In reply to MadoMagie [2013-02-27 10:49:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, there's so much crap on my desk...oy...I should really clean it off at some point Even if I don't use it it would at least make my room look nicer, rofl.

Very true! I'm just scared to spend so much money on something I might not need
