What I had just seen, in the past half hour, served as direct proof that humans are naturally destined for self-destruction.Why people do what they do with Danny's image in order to further their own sick, sorry reputations as supporters of eroticism is still outside my range of understanding.
One thing is true: They have no love for him at all.

This is quite true indeed. And I do agree with this.
Not going to lie, I do read slash, and I do like it. But most of the stories I read have every character years older than in the show. I know it doesn't make it right. Not in the least. And I'm not going to ask for forgiveness just because I like something that someone else doesn't. I'm an author and I like to read. If something is well written, I'll like it no matter what it's about.
Of course, there are some times when slash is just completely wrong. Even for someone like me who loves it so. And as an author, I know that people LOVE to torture characters. We find it fun. It amuses us, and our readers. We don't try to harm anyone in the process. We just write whatever our minds manage to think up. It's the same for the artists. We don't intend to harm anyone. We just draw whatever we want.
Like I said before, I'm not just going to apologize or ask for forgiveness just because someone doesn't like something that I do. I have my opinion, you have yours. It's that simple. I know I've scarred a few people by showing them what I was reading because they asked. And I've felt terrible about it. I try to warn them as much as possible before even bothering to give them a link. But they won't give up until I show them.
Of course you do make a good point. There are certain stories and artwork that even I consider go TOO FAR. It slightly disturbs me that some people can imagine things like that. But then again, I'm not much better when it comes to those kinds of things. But I refuse to apologize for liking something. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. This is mine. And this picture is yours.
All I can say is to try your best to avoid the slash and 'erotic' art. I know how hard it can be.

Unfortunately there are people in this world who feel they have nothing better to do. And the people that are good at it could actually be making something of their lives rather than posting filthy images of a beloved children's cartoon character on the internet.

I feel...guilty. Terribly guilty.
I must admit...to my eternal shame, I have in fact dabbled in slash. I was vaguely concerned about my own purity, but pushed it aside. I wasn't really worried.
Now, in my (sorta) defence, the only slash pairing I really like is Dan/Clockwork...both mature characters, and the only stuff I'd seen on them was really well done. Neither are really innocent.
I've drawn a few things of them, but NEVER to be published...still, I feel very guilty...
You've really convicted me. And I must say, thank you. I never really liked slash with Danny...he is a very innnocent, heroic character. I now realize just...how...wrong I was.
Thank you for in essence whacking me over the head with a shovel in the form of this art and making me realize the error of my ways.
You know what? This is really ironic, actually. I'm a Lord of the Rings fan first and forever, and I'm extremely against it (why must you be so evil to Legolas? Whyyyyyy?), and yet here I am apologising for enjoying slash.
I used to have a steady diet of Lord of the Rings (extremely pure) and Bible (which is as pure as you can get). Now the Bible's collecting dust somewhere and Lord of the Rings is being acknowledged as a has-been.

Having a character die as a means of bringing out that character's best qualities or to provide a proper conclusion to a dramatic plot > having a character die simply to provide shock value to a cruddy story, or because you just don't like that character.
I came across a Neopets fic on here by somebody who had absolutely no understanding of the concept of rape.

Ah, I see. I actually thought about making a story including character deaths in it, but you see, I already thought over about it and decided not to, and just keep it in my head. So the question I asked yesterday was MOSTLY out of curiosity.

Two more questions:
1.What if someone were to truly, deeply apologize for drawing or writing stuff of such nature because they didn't stop to think about what they were doing to the characters in question?
2. What about stories involving rape, be it onscreen or off? Not Danny violating Sam, but some OC bad guy raping one of the stories heroes? What if it wasn't because they got some sick, demented pleasure out of it, but because it served the purpose of the plot, like to make the bad guy look even worse or something?

In that case, I have a confession to make: I have written and read some stories of that nature, but, like I said, I never realized what I was doing to the characters in question. Your drawing made me feel like such a creep (for lack of a better word, since there are no insults foul enough to express how low I felt) that, without looking back, deleted all erotic stories from my fanfiction.net profile, as well as I ones I had favorited. I deeply and sincerly apologize and I hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive me and I also hope that you won't think the lesser of me. (I still have a story with an erotic chapter involving Johnny 13 and Ember, but this will be changed, you can be sure of that).
Please allow me to explain myself when it comes to the times Sam's been violated in my stories:
Once by Dash in a next generation fic (originally it was to make Dash look as bad as humanly possible, but since then Sam gave birth to a daughter, which, after a while, led to a sequel in which her daughter (who Danny considers to be his, even though he knows the truth) becomes a protege of Vlad's and recieves her powers (She goes good in the end, though). This rape was offscreen).
Twice by an abusive boyfriend (once offscreen, once onscreen, both times to make him look as bad as hmanly possible. These will be changed).
Once by someone unseen (An AU I did in which Sam has already given birth by the time the story starts. Her parents don't believe she got raped, so they put her up for adoption. When the story starts, Sam, as I said, has already given birth, gets adopted by the Foleys, and moves to Amity Park, where she meets Jazz and Danny, who, it turns out, has unbelievably high standards when it comes to the girls he dates, including having children out of wedlock. Danny finds out abotu Lilith, Sam's daughter, and immediately jumps to the worng conclusion, but Tucker and Jazz set him straight. The rape is also offscreen).
Again, I apologize one-thousandfold. I feel like such a low-down, dirty schmuck. There is no word in any language shameful enough to express the shame and remorse I feel because, like I said, I was too foolish to see the harm I was doing the characters. I cannot beg your forgivenes enough, and I can only hope that you will find it in your heart to forgive me.

But it is not Me who deserves your apology... I was not your intended audience. It is those whom you had exposed such material to in the name of your attraction to Danny who you should be apologizing to.
Second, such subjects as rape are not to be treated lightly, as they affect people on all different levels. Only truly experienced writers who understand the depth of such "shock" subjects really understand how they deserve to be handled. Using such subjects does not make one an experienced or "good" writer, however, just like the use of mature language does not make one mature. Most inexperienced writers who attempt to use such subjects in their work only end up attracting individuals who indulge in these subjects as a sadomasochistic fetish.
Third, remember that Danny is no one's character but Butch's, and that he comes with a world that has its own set of rules. The challenge in writing fanfic about him comes in adhering steadfastly to these rules while still creating a believable and original story. Like any writer, you still have a second chance.

Thank you, I feel so much better. I try not to treat rape lightly, I know that it's a very heavy subject. I have a story on fanfiction.net which involves one of the rapes that I mentioned called "Save Me, Danny", if you wish to read it. If you do, you'll see how heavy I view it. Trust me, Sam's life hits rock bottom and stays there for several chapters (the story does end on a note of hope, though). Thanks for giving me a second chance, also. I shall never write or read another "Danny Phantom" story like that again.

I honestly don't know where to begin beyond saying this piece is truly touching and speaks more truth than anything super detailed or fully colored. The message cuts to the core of the issue, leaving little to be confused about.
I've never seen anything of the 'art' you speak of, and I am thankful for it. I've only been a fan of the series for about half a year, I think. I'd never even heard of Danny Phantom until I saw an episode in a resturant (no sound so all I saw was images). While I was thoroughly confused by everything that was happening, I immediately saw in the episode a sort of carefree, happy spirit. This was a cartoon that was sorely needed in today's line-ups of heroes and heroines with overly defined bodies and a need to be the one that everyone wants to lay, and I was hooked by that innocence.
Everywhere I go on the Net, I search for more information on Danny, learning as much as I could about him and knowing how strongly his creator feels about him reminds me much of myself. My characters are my children, I bring them to life and treat them with all the love of a mother. Even being a fan of someone else's characters, I treat them with respect and love, because they are someone else's children. How could someone do such a thing to a creator's gift to the world?
When I write fanfics or draw fanart for Danny, I make sure to sit and think long and hard about him; I want to be sure that I stay true to his spirit, to the soul of Danny, before I ever lay pen to paper. How would he act, what would he say, what would he do? All the information I collect, all the episodes I manage to find and record and collect, leads me to make as accurate a reproduction as possible, a Danny Phantom that retains a majority of his true nature, as well as hold a small spark of myself.
I write for the underdog, and Danny has suffered enough to be considered one to me. I stand by him, I wish to protect him and I feel repulsed by anyone daring to abuse him in the name of Art. Ars Artia Gratis, but not when you defile a pure soul for the sake of indecent pleasures. Yes, I may torture the character in storylines, but I at least make sure he has a support system to survive what harshness I put him through and maintain that degree of trueness to his character. Why can't others do the same? Why can't people understand that they are making themselves feel good at the expense of a character who carries the spark of their creator's life? Abusing Danny like this, while he holds Butch Hartman's hopes and dreams within him, is like dragging that poor man out in public and defiling him!
Please, save Danny, in more ways than just stopping the cancellation of his series. Thank you, Gryph, and fight on.
