hahaha border collies aren't as good with cattle as sheep anyway, different herding styles. i think for a cattle dog i'd use a... corgi! hehe i always feel amused when i think about those little guys chasing cows around. for sheep probably a regular collie, border collies are overated lol
lmao no thanks, not a huge fan of those XD i think i might do a dollie not that i mention them. they were always one of my favorites growing up. i loved Lassie and I had a friend with two of them and they were so beautiful.

Border collies are one of the smartest breeds but I can't see them going toe to toe with a 2,000 pound animal. I wanted a collie when we started looking for a dog, but my mother said they were nippy and required too much in the grooming department, so we got a pit bull.
Afghan Hounds are UGLY!

well border collies are smart yeah, but there are different herding styles for sheep and cattle. sheep, being smaller and more fragile, can't handle a lot of rough handling, most sheepdogs use a combination of barking to scare them and intimidation to drive them. cattle are bigger and tougher, most cattle dogs tend to be more agressive and will nip at the cattle's heels and bite and charge at them. there are smooth coated collies, which solves the grooming problem. as for the nipping, all herding dogs do that, cattle dogs are worse tho lol and collies aren't nearly as high strung as border collies. pit bulls are awesome too tho lol.
well i don't think they're ugly... i just don't find them attractive. really in afghan their coats never get that long XD it's just the show dogs that looks so ridiculous.

she's prejudice against collies! not cool D: sounds like she was just being difficult though XD yeah they're not supposed to get rough but unfortunately they're mostly bred as companions these days so i think that sometimes they get misbred and it effects they're natural herding ability. and then some one gets one and tries to herd with it and they don't do quite right. that's like german shepherds, they still have that herding drive but a lot of the time, they're no good at it because they're too agressive and end up biting the sheep.
yep, in afghan they're actually still used for hunting and as regular dog, the elements keep their coats from getting too long, maybe about six inches at most, it's supposed to help protect them from the cold and heat and wind. you could take one of them and raise it somewhere else and it's coat will grow out but they're not really SUPPOSED to. people who imported them to other countries just thought it looked pretty when they did.
yeah i've seen that, they're talking about the same thing with english bulldogs and a few other breeds that have just been bred to look a certain way but that look is affecting their health.

Oh wow much better looking afghan!
Maybe it's just the british show dogs [link]
I think almost all female bull dogs have to have c-section I've NEVER heard of one giving birth naturally, which is NOT natural obviously!

yeah british dogs are bred differently than american ones. swedish show shepherds are really nice looking, not a lot of difference between them and working dogs except maybe they're a little prettier.
found some pictures of natural afghans: [link] [link] [link]

I like the shorter haired version! I bet when it's really brushed out it looks pretty nice, afghans don't have time to brush their dogs all the time, our longer haired dogs would probly over heat too, you think? Dunno cuz they lure course sometimes.

well afghan coats aren't really fur... it's more like hair, not like human hair but close, so it's not so thick as say a husky's fur. hence why it chords like that. and the longer haired dogs would probably do ok but they'd probably need to be trimmed, though their hair would probably break off on its own after a few weeks of the elements and such. afghans are still the same body wise, it's just the fur that's different.

winnie loved it, we'd shave her and she'd run out to the back yard and run a few circles then plop down in the grass and roll around in it like "AHHHHHHH" but a friend of mine had a chow named Howie that they'd shave and he hated it too XD she'd poodle cut him just for the hell of it, take pictures, then shave everything off XD he'd just sit there and stare at her afterwards like "i hate you"

dogs don't have the range of emotions humans do but they most certainly do have some emotions. you couldn't be around my two dogs Roxie and Winnie and not notice their very different personalities and the different ways they acted and handled things and think that dogs are just mindless animals.
i miss my dogs... winnie passed away about two years ago from cancer and roxie passed away about four months ago from old age, she was about 12, i'd had her since the 3rd grade, winnie since the 5th. i live in an apartment that only allows cats and small dogs and i'm just not a small dog person so i got a cat. he's a good cat, but he's no dog. i'll always be a dog person. loki has quite the personality but dogs are just... theres nothing like when you come home and your dog is there waiting for you and they look SO excited to see you. you don't get that from cats. or even people. i plan on getting a dog as soon as i get a house lol

that's sweet :3 I don't know where dad burried Winnie but Roxie is burried at my boyfriend's parents' house cause they were keeping me for her when she died.
cats are cool, but they do everything on their terms. Loki greets me when i get home and stuff but when i want to pet him he tries to do this whole "oh alright but only because i feel like it" with dogs they're just like "yes please! i love you!"
it can be hard, but i wouldn't move back in with my dad now unless i absolutely have to.
