Description It was a crisp afternoon, the thoroughbreds had all been out and jogged around Paige Stud's training track, including the great up and coming Full Metal Jacket.
But now I heard a familiar snort from the barn, the infamous Coyote Killer was pawing his straw anxiously. It had been a while since he had been out for a jog, his mane was crazy long now, Danny said he looked like a girl.
He was aging like wine, only getting better at reining and was certainly better looking with age, next week will mark his fifth birthday.
I unbolted his stall door and stood aside, he placidly walked out into the shed row and turned toward the open barn doors that led to the dead pasture. Once outside he picked up into a spirited trot, his blonde mane and tail flowing in the wind. I found a feather from one of our local red-tailed hawks and fixed it into a twist on the stallion's mane. He looked like an Indian horse, all that was needed was a few painted handprints on his rump and he would be complete.
He continued to trot until coming to a stop on a grassy knoll, then let out a soft whicker, as if talking into the wind, the windtalker.

Oh! "Tresses" is my fancy word for mane/tail/forelock/hair in general I haven't seen anyone else use it before, so I don't blame you for not knowing what the term meant xD! I tend to create a bunch of words all the time... I should consider making a dictionary...

WickerWolfArt In reply to Huntress614 [2009-12-28 18:54:32 +0000 UTC]

I was going ask you about that, I usually age ALL my horses by a year about once every two or three weeks. I just did it yesterday, I don't change it on the pics just my stable journal.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Huntress614 In reply to WickerWolfArt [2009-12-28 19:03:11 +0000 UTC]

I generally just age them in my head everytime they are bred... and grow the babies to breeding age when I remember I have foals running around! If I aged my horses every two weeks, they would all be dead before I had a chance to do anything with them! haha!

WickerWolfArt In reply to Huntress614 [2009-12-29 04:18:29 +0000 UTC]

Haha, well I draw my horses quite often so aging them every two to three weeks suits me, of course sometimes they don't even age THAT fast.

Got 2 deer this year though, a far cry from when I used to fill my tags

Huntress614 In reply to WickerWolfArt [2009-12-31 19:59:49 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I can only get one deer a year in my state! So it's a good year when I can even fill a tag! Could of had two since I went to Montana too... but I didn't get one in WA so I just got the montana buck and a bunny!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WickerWolfArt In reply to Huntress614 [2010-01-01 03:26:14 +0000 UTC]

It used to be that way here, we had NO deer and so they were re-introduced and now we have too many. Last year marked the first year where you bought your regular license for 6 deer and then could go back and get 10 more doe tags for free. According to our game book, last year over 100,000 deer were harvested in the state of NC.
You got a bunny? I hear they're good eatin, I found a dead one the other day it was . . . eww.

Huntress614 In reply to WickerWolfArt [2010-01-01 18:54:25 +0000 UTC]

Holy cow!!! That's amazing. I highly doubt they would do anything like that up here... I couldn't even imagine taking that many deer. I bet your food banks are doing good with people donating deer...

I did get a bunny. It was fun, I chased it through the woods with my handgun. They are very tasty... but I wouldn't eat one I just found... haha. You should shoot one one day and try it.

WickerWolfArt In reply to Huntress614 [2010-01-02 00:57:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah we have way too many deer!
I've heard rabbit is good, I used to have a pet rabbit and it's taken some time to even think about eating rabbit, let alone kill one. But I've tried convince myself that those rabbits are nothing like my pet bunny, because they're not, mean little bastards!

Huntress614 In reply to WickerWolfArt [2010-01-03 02:16:13 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I use to have a pet rabbit too... but the only thing I havn't been able to differentiate between pet and wild are coyotes and wolves... I can't bring myself to shoot them. It would be like shooting someones fluffy dog... (my aunt use to have a malamute) Though I could probably bring myself to shoot a wolf considering how much damage they cause

WickerWolfArt In reply to Huntress614 [2010-01-03 02:26:34 +0000 UTC]

I think I could shoot a wolf . . . if there was any way to eat it. I've heard predators taste awful, I've never heard anyone say they tasted bear and liked it . . . I mean "rug steaks" doesn't very appetizing(sp?).

Huntress614 In reply to WickerWolfArt [2010-01-03 02:31:53 +0000 UTC]

My dad's had cougar and said it was pretty good, and we like bear sausage, you gotta do something with it though... I've heard bear steaks aren't that great. But I read some blog once about weird food around the world, and the guy was eating dog, and said it was really good. Said the meat tasted sweet, which is what I've heard about carnivores/omnivores

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WickerWolfArt In reply to Huntress614 [2010-01-03 03:04:12 +0000 UTC]

Weird, never heard what bear tasted like, some said it was tough. But others say venison is gamey . . . whatever that means.

Huntress614 In reply to WickerWolfArt [2010-01-03 03:09:58 +0000 UTC]

It really totally depends on how ya cook it. I've fed people deer (secretly) who had said they'd had it before and hated it, and by the time they were done with one of my deer steaks, they were droolin and askin what it was... They just hadn't had it cooked right before.
We butcher all our own stuff, so its exactly like we like it.

We tried a really nice recipe from Ted Nugent called "The Tough Buck Recipe" I think we may have used too much lemon juice but it was god-like!!!

Ha that reminds me, we had a soup dinner at church the other sunday and I made a batch of venison stew. We were standing in line and the older lady in front of me got to my crock pot and leaned down to read the tag . . . "Venecian Stew, hmm that sounds good." and dipped out a ladle full. I would have corrected her if my mother's elbow hadn't re-arranged my ribs But she sat there and ate it and said it was best beef she had ever had.

Haha that's awesome! I hope she was a tree huggin hunter hater... haha. I did that once, gave some hunting hating bimbo... I was eating elk jerky while she was going on about how horrible hunting was, and how could I MURDER such a beautiful animal (though she eats beef and chicken all the time) So I handed her some jerky and waited till she swallowed it to tell her she just ate an elk that I "murdered"
I thought she was gunna puke... at least your mom's elbow saved the woman from knowing the horror within the pot! haha!

Haha! I took a crock pot stew to school on our last day . . . December 3rd or so and everyone said it was great. I only told them it was deer if they asked. I was surprised that one girl (who was in my sociology class) ate it I thought for sure she was a vegetarian but anywho. The only reason most of the people who didn't care for it was because of the veggies, they wanted more meat. I did have one girl eating it like crazy and then got wind of what it was, she asked and I told her. Out of the corner of my eye I saw her spit it into a napkin and she never touched it again. But that's ok, more for me!!!

Haha, that's hilarious!
I took a bunch of my skulls and racks to school for a project, and more girls were actually interested in it that guys. The guys were disgusted, and girls were actually coming up to look at them and asking questions. It was kinda funny. That's what I get for living in a city I dont fit into... haha! No real men... hahaha

It's sad when there are no real men around, you know I've NEVER dated? Maybe I'm too picky

I didn't ask for permission, I just did it! plus my parents were there cause it was a presentation about myself and family...

Well when he found out I rode dirt bikes too, he asked if I rode around the woods and shot deer off the dirt bike, he bad mouthed hunting, and all in all what a jerk to me. I never liked administrators so I just delt with it, and game him major attitude and snideness... it was rather entertaining.
