After nearly a decade, our jolly little Jolteon now has a name to call her own. A perfect Christmas gift.

This render was a part of my Discord server's monthly render challenge. The theme for December 2023 was: GENEROSITY

I never thought I would use a still render to reveal such important information, but here we are, Jolteon's new name! I've been hesitant to give her one out of fear of picking something too common, or wanting to change it later, but once I thought about it critically, I knew this would be the one.

For those curious, I picked this name because of its relation to trees (important for reasons I don't want to reveal yet). Holly trees are often depicted as having spiky leaves with red berries, which, given Jolteon's necklace and spiky fur, seemed all too fitting.

I'm quite proud of the render itself too! I originally planned to have Jolteon lay under the bed in the background, but the depth of focus I got with that camera didn't make that a good composition. So instead, I pushed her closer. From there, I blurred the background further, created an orange-ish rim around the top of the frame, and softened some of the colors around the gift!

Main area of improvement this time around would probably be the masking. I put a lot of time into it, but the area around the candle and berries still sticks out in ways I wouldn't like. I kind of wish the candle flame was a bit bigger too. That was mainly the result of bad timing.
