I can understand you feeding them only grain or seeds.
I have never seen a woodpecker that sound lovely eating hazelnuts
These Butcherbirds are Insect eating birds..
And Yes it is lovely to watch them grow up Hadrian if they get the chance that is.

I've caught him once. [link] But usually you only hear them pecking on the trees.
I hope that yours will make it! Are they staying where they hatched or do they look for a new territory once they're grown up?

The males go elsewhere the females seem to stay, the last chick Barney born Spring 2007 [link] and Bill [link] as in female born Spring 2006 were poisoned by a neighbour last August.
An accident she said as the bird seed she puts out for the Lorikeets was attracting mice so she laid bait the mice died and the butcher birds were seen pulling the mouse apart then were never seen again.
It almost broke my heart ..

Hopefully your neighbour learned something from last!
I'll keep my fingers crossed that Benji and BB make it to adulthood and start a family of their own. Maybe even in your backyard!^^

What a pretty little birdy! Good shot! Bird photography is not one of my strong suits. That is one thing I would like to work on this year.
