Description Off the coasts of Florida, we see a blue dragon sea slug that has come across a Portuguese man-o-war. This jellyfish-like thing is actually a colony of creatures working together. Starting out as a flat, worm-like organism, it sprouts polyps, each of which develops into a new part of the man-o-war. One kind of polyp grows up to be the float; others grow into tentacles and feeding tubes. As a result, they make a deadly combination. At the slightest touch of a tentacle, tiny barbed harpoons shoot out, each injecting a victim with a stinging dose of venom. Most of the victims got affected by the man-o-war's toxins, but not the blue dragon sea slug. It stores stinging nematocysts from the man-o-war within its own tissues as defense against predators. If a human handles a blue dragon sea slug, it may receive a very painful and potentially dangerous sting.
