I feel like the plane being directly within the light source isn't a coincidence. A figurative and literal 'ray of hope' perhaps?

That sends a few shivers up my spine.
My father was a US Merchant sailor in WWII
He told me stories where they would come across life rafts in the open cold seas of the North Atlantic.
The occupants dead huddled about each other. They froze to death.
He was torpedoed four times escaping to the boats. He was lucky either rescued or close enough to make land.
One horrible incident he only spoke about one time.
A search light from a surfaced Uboat swung about missing his life boat but landed on another.
He told me he never forgot the sound the MG42 makes. The screams were silenced in time.
A very strong piece of art.

Wow, fantastic colors. It's specifically interesting in your choice to make the water look calm, like in pond, but still have motion to the water. I don't know whether to feel relaxed by the unbroken water and the patch of clear sky, or invigorated from the movement of the water and the dark clouds.
