Description Legends say that the first cockatrice emerged from and egg laid by a hen and incubated by a serpent . Whether the story is true or not, today's cockatrices breed in filthy abandoned hens houses left by their careless owners.

Males greatly outnumber females in these flocks, and are distinguished by their wattles and combs. A typical cockatrice stands over four feet tall and weigh 20 pounds. Monstrous, vicious, and repulsive, cockatrice are avoided by other creatures due to their magical ability to turn flesh to stone.

The cockatrice's strange ability to turn other creatures in to stone is the creatures greatest defense, and a cockatrice lair is invariably littered with petrified remnants of it's foes. For unknown reasons, cockatrices are both terrified and enrage by conventional roosters, and their call. Which it is why, they flee or attack when confronted by one.
