Description The birdflower for November; Chrysanthemum. Mums are wonderful little flowers that come in every color (except blue, I found out). Chrysanthemum's eyes and tail stones are citrine, as it is November's birthstone.

I suppose the working title for this would have been something like, "Mum Thief" or "Oh Crap, I Dropped My Flowers, but I Don't Care Since I'm Flying Out of This Swirly Cool Background."

The background is partially due to something weird going on with the illustration board and me fixing it, and partially experimentation with a different style. I got these weird 'scratches' on the board, and it was as if there was wax or something on the board. Where the 'scratches' were, the paint wouldn't soak in. Regardless, I think I was able to save the painting.

I love the background! I didn't know Chrysanthemums were November's flower....

Having Topaz as my birthstone sucks because it usually looks the color of piss... XD

So pretty!

I have always had Topaz as my November birthstone. Have they changed it?

So far as I've read, topaz is the primary birthstone for November, and citrine is the alternative birthstone.

Ah, the imperial flower of Japan, at least from the description of Japan as "Chrysamphemum Empire" and such as I have heard. Nice touch.

Just an fyi, citrine actually isn't November's birthstone, it's golden topaz. I'm born in November so I know . Same color though so no trouble with your pic.

Many months have multiple birthstones. October, for example, is listed as both tourmaline and opal. November is listed as both topaz and citrine. [link]

I made sure to research the birthstones in multiple sources to make sure.

I've looked up birthstones in numerous books, jewelry/gem stores, and online and only have seen citrine listed as November's birthstone twice. I imagine all months have multiple stones, but each month has only one most commonly used one.

Yay, my month! LoL I feel I have the right to favorite this.
I've been waiting to favorite all of your month birds (gorgeous and original... you are amazing)... But I decided this one would be the most meaningful for me.
With that said... Yay!

you know what's sad is that for as much as I appear to despise my birth month's colors, they fit my personality which is jewel toned, wild, and bubbly free. There's a spiritedness to this bird that fits every single November Scorpio baby that I've met. The calendar is going to be lovely.

Lovely I have gotten scratches in my bristol board when working with color pencils. It's difficult to fill in and cover unless you sharpen the pencils well. Still with this painting, I can't see the scratches at all.

This is really beautiful despite the illustration board having wax & the scratches on it. My birthday month is November and I love how realistic the chrysanthemum flowers look! It's very lively and I'm going to put it into my s!

Thanks! I'm glad you like your month's birdflower. I was really upset when I first started painting and saw the scratches, since I had already drawn everything on the board. In a way, it's good that I was forced to figure out a way of covering the scratches, since it caused me to experiment with a new style.

LovelyLadyGray In reply to windfalcon [2007-12-21 03:05:50 +0000 UTC]

Welcomes! It was very stunning and I love birds. I get upset if a drawing, story, or a painting is just fighting (I'm being QUITE SERIOUS here) me, but it is much better to just let your mind wander and then an idea for a painting hits you like magic. I've never had scratches on any of my illustration boards but I either get dirt spots or ink smudges on them instead, I'm glad that it did.

I should try to do a watercolor painting on an illustration board soon.

Woohoo! My birth month. I love the swirly cool background, and the fact that the bird is flying. And I'm just gonna imagine that you said the stone is topaz. *loves topaz*

windfalcon In reply to OmegaDreamSeeker11 [2007-12-21 01:48:41 +0000 UTC]

Well, both citrine and topaz are the birthstones, so they could be either.

OmegaDreamSeeker11 In reply to windfalcon [2007-12-21 01:50:50 +0000 UTC]

Topaz comes in more colors. Yeah, I know it's only the golden color which is the birthstone. Oh well.

Besides, I don't have any pieces of citrine.
