Thanks! I'm afraid the view has changed somewhat, since the map and town layout have been updated since this was drawn, but don't worry, the sweeping mountain vistas will still be a staple of this comic.

Don't worry, they blow up most spectacularly... There's an active volcano nearby, after all, and it all takes place in a highly disputed border region, kind of like the Kashmir between India and Pakistan, so you just know there's going to be a lot of "border incidents". Involving tanks, artillery and air power, no less.

Frankly, they see the volcano like a hindrance, since it keeps them from patriotically slaughtering each other - unofficially that is, because it would be an economical disaster for both empires if all out war were declared and trade ceased between them...

Seems like they really dislike each other.. Why not fight and just get it over with? Sure there's a chance the empires might fall but the possibility of gaining that 'superior' status might be worth it.

If you expect logic, reason and common sense to triumph in the political arena, I'm afraid you're going to be a bit disappointed...

In fact history gives us tons of such incidents occurring between countries officially at peace with each other, such as, for example, the Japanese-Soviet Border incidents between 1932 and 1945: [link]
