Description
The base image for the 2013 Christmas card of my reenactment group, "Asociatia Traditia Militara"It shows a Romanian soldier from the 4th Line Infantry Regiment during the winter of 1877, near Plevna (Pleven, in modern day Bulgaria) during the Romanian War of Independence (Russso-Turkish war of 1877-78).
The image itself is somewhat based on a painting by the Russian painter Vasily Vereshchagin, a participant of the campaign, depicting a Russian soldier in similar circumstances
It's also similar in terms of theme to the drawing from last year , although that one was based on a photo from WW1.
