Another shot that I took in Oostende at the beach, It looks a lot like a previous post 'Dark Skies' [link] , but this one was shot from vertical position,and I did some photoshopping on it. Hope you guys like it.

Awesome, love the intensity of the dark colours punctuated by the sinuous light, I gather a bit of processing went into it but itβs beautifully done. An instant fav.

Yeah that's not posted as photography, for me that's photomanipulation hehe.
Wouldn't dare call that a photo. But I think the result's really nice. I was trying to create
a threatening feeling, very dense. As if you would be crushed between the clouds and the beach
if you were to stay there a bit longer. The dramatic effect is increased by the couple walking on the beach in the far distance. They're walking towards the clear sky far away, but are stuck in the middle of that threatening environment. Really glad you like it !

I think the term photography is now an out of step definition for a mostly by-gone era of image reproduction. The digital images and manipulations today are by all accounts as intricate, complex, layered and meaningful as photographs.
I think itβs a wonderful image, Iβm still learning, and understanding what I do; I see this as a very complex and well-crafted capture/alteration.

Very true yet I wouldn't post that under photography
I like manipulations and digital images, but photos are still made
with a camera and not with photoshop. A little added contrast or
brightness doesn't bother me, but when everythingd edited like in density,
it's no longer photography. It's digital art, not longer a capture of the moment.

I guess itβs not a totally factual or exact capture of the moment but itβs still bound to time as we define it, as in the person making the art (digital, photographic, sculpture, canvas, etc) is making a decision based on their emotions and knowledge. Even photography can be skewed, what if the photographer is biased towards telling the story from their point of view, they control the lens and you see what they want you to see.
But I totally get where youβre coming from, I just donβt think you should diminish a piece because it falls outside of other definitions, like when you said that you wound not dare call it photography, this implies that you have weakened your position because of the way βtheyβ categorise art.

Hmmmmmmmm "they" really have a big impact apparantly.
If my position gets weakened it's because of a lack of faith in myself,
yet "they" have never been pushing me in any directions. I do what I feel good
about, or at least I try to.

This is so beautiful, I love your post work. The blackness of that water is so beautiful. I'd love to see this in b&w too actually, I think it would make for a really strong image, being so dark.

I know exactly what you mean. That's the feel I was getting from it, very ominous and very sort of...like you said dense, like walled in. Like you're watching the storm coming.

That's exactly what I tried to do !
I wanted to create a very dense atmosphere,
something threatening, as if you would end up
crushed between the shore and the skyline if
you were to look at it much longer...
