You could consider this scene a squel to This: He Must Awaken! While the magic users attempt to Revive Doom Slayer, other demon hunters/slayers hold back a horde of them outside the temple so as to prevent them from stopping Doom Slayer's revival.

On the other hand you can consider this just another random scene from The Guardian-Verse during one of the many times Hell attempts to invade the Mortal Realm and no I'm not gonna say what number this attempt is. XD It's a lot lets put it that way.
