Description
The parasites start off tiny. Smaller than fleas. The unwilling hosts often don't even realise they've been bitten. Like ticks, the parasites latch on and feed to grow. By the time they are sizeable enough for the host to notice they are nigh on impossible to remove. Killing them is not an option as they have already wired into the host and killing them would release a toxin only produced when the creature dies. This toxin would kill the host. As they grow they consume more and more of the host until ultimately the roles are reversed, the host dangling from the now much larger parasites. The host remains living through the whole process but further studies are needed to work out whether or not the host is self aware in the late stages of the process; there are mixed beliefs on this point.
