The day I forget about this character
I will always call it
"Some-a fishperson"
(still looks nice though)

she was MONTHS in the making i am not exaggerating either haha like i just wanted to make a fish person so theres like a sketch pile in my sketchbook from months back and i could not decide on a design.
At the end i went with her......you know after coming back to it months later haha so far feedback on twitter has been great so i can say she definitely hit the spot <3

She looks really good and unique, so the long period of sketches paid off. Do you have a specific method, a plan or something when designing characters? or is a more random process? (i'm a mess, draw shit from a basic shape or a dumb concept, and change stuff all the time : P)

Sketching, sketching a ton.
I usually start off with something like "i wanna draw _____"
From there i start looking around for references, sometimes body types and such, see what other people have done and what i can do as my own.
If that makes any sense, haha i usually have trouble trying my best to explain my steps haha
Like Simma was due to me wanting a fish person of sort, so i started looking at stuff like animals, and characters from games and such and other artist if they popped up. Eventually i started mixing my own little things, along with trying other approaches and styles, at the end i ended up with this. Her strange crown like head piece was a major inspiration from this demon i read in a manga where a demon had an extra set of eyes on her crown and i really really just love that look.
Sometimes my characters start out way different as well from what i end up with, like ViVaiVai, my ghoul character was some weird thin cat person thing, but out of curiosity i took the car ears and tail off along with making her miss an eye and well the rest is history
A bunch of my characters designs start way different if you look at their first appearance to their latest but i believe its like that with everyone haha

Hey! Thanks for long answer! i have always found interesting the creative process of other people. I think that modifying, redesigning, its almost an essential part of art, i believe that when one design a character a part of that person goes there, so as you grow, learn shit, change, your creation change with you, a little bit at least. Does that makes sense? i don't know, but it's what i believe : P
