OMG! how in the hell have you done that? I tried to make Jack Skellintong and I swear I wanted to die and the textures, they are awsome, you made it your self right? Oh God

This is an awesome model, I am trying hard to create a low poly model myself and keep running up the count too high for details (over 3,000 quad faces!).

I am curious, what is your secret?

(P.S. Hugs Babs.)

Thank you

My secret, hmm... I just try to use as little vertexes as it's possible to define a curve, and use a different smoothing group if I need a visible border, like the ones around Babs's eyes. I also try to define more details by painting the shading on the texture... hope that helps

Hey thanks for telling me, I might try to do that with my models.

What did you use to make that? It looks awesome!

lol, thanks! I used Milkshape, it's a rather easy program if you want to get into modeling, but the interfaces of Max or Maya confuse you. You can grab the trail from here [link]

Interesting to see how you have texture Babs

wonrz In reply to andynortonuk [2008-05-21 19:11:16 +0000 UTC]

I'm keeping it simple, she's supposed to remind classicly animated characters, so no fancy details

It's very effective way of doing textures.

Wow, great job, very on model.

Can textures be animated for an eyeblink? Or a separate hidden mesh to cover the eye?

I see you are on a mac, but if you have a PC, not sure, but would this free mod tool offer anything more advance for rigging it to Half-Life? [link]

wonrz In reply to TimothyB [2008-05-21 12:33:26 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I'm on a PC alright The gui is just a Windows shell I'm using, it's called nomen omen Black Mesa

Thanks, but XSI is more useful for exporting HL2 models, while this is intended for HL1, and Milkshape has all thats needed for HL1 modelling

About this being on-model, I'm not so sure; If you're TTA geek like me, then you're probably aware that the show was animated by several different houses, and the model sheets they used varied greatly A comparison of the styles was nicely drawn by Atariboy2600:

While drawing the sheet for making this model, I tried to split the difference between TMS and Startoons styles.

Ah, I see. Yeah, the Tiny Toons style varied, especially in quality at times. Due to the many animation houses you mention. I was looking at youtube and just found a well done animation for a Hitachi commercial (though, from what you've said, you've probably seen everything) : [link]

Either way, at first glance, before looking at the other styles, your model looks very official and in one of the better styles. Like if there was a real 3D game (is there?), that's what Babs would look like.

Is this for the source engine version of HL1?

Thanks!
I dont really plan on animating her, but the model will be available for download, so if any animator/modeller is willing, they are welcome to make all the modifications they need.

Eddiego?

I dont think I'll be touching animation in a while, I'm still kind of struggling with low-poly modelling... but once done, I'm going to make the model available for download, so you'll be welcome to do as you please with it

wonrz In reply to Ishoka [2008-05-19 22:29:21 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure it would take a lot of redoing to make it really animatable. My basic intention is to rig it with Valve's skeleton and export as a player model for the multiplayer mode of the game Half-Life, and those dont really have any advanced controllers
