Description Well, this is it. My entry for 's redesign Link contest. Heh. I was surprised that I decided to do this. And I've stayed up all night long working on it. (I'll be dead today...)

Anyway, I best give the backstory for my redesign.

BACKSTORY:

An extremely intense fire had burned Hyrule years ago, and blinded many of the citizens. Ganondorf came to Hyrule in the kingdom's time of need and overran the town with his minions. The royal family went into hiding to escape Ganondorf, who wished to gain their baby Zelda for his own sick intentions.

Years passed, and the Kingdom of Hyrule and its surrounding areas had given up hope that the hero of legend would come to save them from their torment. And somewhere deep in the forests, a wise young woman waits patiently for he who will help her to bring Hyrule back to life.

Character backstory:

LINK: Link's tribe lived outside of Lake Hylia, where little water still remained. All the boys of the tribe had been blinded at birth, a terrifying custom forcefully implemented by Ganondorf in order to prevent a legendary hero from someday overthrowing him.

Link wished to someday gain sight, and is told of a flame that doesn't take sight away, but gives it back - called the "Sight of Truth". Sent with nothing but a staff, his tribe's most precious possession, Link went off in search of his true sight.

NIGHTMARE: This is a redesign of the nightmare from Link's Awakening. The stuff of children's nightmares, this guy uses his huge red hands to absorb happy dreams, and send out nightmares, whether one is awake or not. A huge ball of slime with a single eye and huge metal claws, this is Link's worst nightmare - evil that holds his greatest desire, and mocks him with it.

And yes, the Master Sword is on FYAH!!! This is Link traveling through the Lost Woods - which is fairly spooky at the moment.

No, he doesn't have a shield as of yet - notice the fire sword? A wooden shield doesn't work so well with a fiery weapon.

Design details: Link has no hand coverings, as he really needs to FEEL where he's going. The two beads tied on his hat represent the Triforce (gold bead), and the mystical Master Sword which was believed to be destroyed in Hyrule's fire (blue bead).

Link's hair is tri-color, again a representation of the Triforce, and also the three hair colors given to him throughout the years - orange, brown, and blonde (I'm not sure if the orange/goldenrod was canon, but I'd seen it before).

The boots are thin leather tied with leather straps to allow Link to - again - FEEL where he's going. The large wooden cuffs on his arms, the wooden knee covers, and the wooden armor is meant to protect Link, but still let him feel where he is, based on the air, etc.

Hopefully Link notices that Nightmare above his head soon enough...

And Feri, thanks for hosting this contest - it got me drawing again. And even though I hate coloring, it got me to do that too.

It's prolly the eyes. I tried to make him not look like Toph, but every time I got to the eyes...

So I decided for the "pupil-less" look.

*shrugs*

Thanks. I hate coloring, so I feel like this is a major advance for me on the coloring stage.

And, if anything, I'm drawing again, so that's a great prize. A little of my creativity back.
