o3o so cute~~
I've always wanted a wolf as a pet >w< Second animal I wanted was a wolf. The first and still is a Kodiak Bear <3
I know that there are wolf-dog mixes, I believe you need a permit of some sort to own a real wolf?
I know my mother says she owned a wolf-dog mix. Her name was Wolf xD She told me funny little stories about all her dogs. I wish I could meet them but sadly they're gone.
My favorite strory about wolf was that they had chickens (it helped, since my mother was one of 15 kids) and they would take in the chickens p, cut them up bury their heads and stuff at the end of the garden to fertilize it. But, Wolf would dig the head and everything up and eat it. So they poured kerosine on the chickens when they buried them. But Wolf continued to dog them up even with the kerosine on them! XD

It may not be the best idea, but actually there are low to High content wolfdogs that are kept as pets and can be trained and kept healthy if their needs are met.

I wasn't even aware people could own wolves as pets... at least legally.
I know that my aunt owned one for all of 1 month. She said it was the smartest pet she ever owned. Funny story, she would take her for a walk around the apartments every night and there was always a man drinking there. He actually poured out some of his beer and... the weirdest thing, the wolf actually drank it. On another day a man walking home had a few pieces of raw meat and after handing it to her, she was able to track and find his doorstep... even though my aunt nor the wolf had actually been there!
...
Well now I feel like I'm giving you a bogus story so crap gotta find a family photo of the pet.

I refer to my dog as a wolf a lot (she's a Husky mix), but have never actually claimed she is one... Silly people. I love your pictures though because they remind me of my sweet pup - especially this one.

Know that story all to well.
They really do not make good pets at all, they are a handful, ruin everything and are little terrors. Not only that but they are quiet difficult to train.
The cubs i worked with were so cute, but actually are little nightmares, and the adults are so hard to train.
All i know is that if anyone asks me to prove it i have plenty of evidence XD

They generally don't howl at the moon.. They howl as a pack, and territory marking.
Infact, the ones we work with howl more during the day than night.
Btw, you need a license to own a wolf, but not for a 3rd gen hybrid. They're awful pets, they really are.. chewing corners occasionally? haha! If it was a proper wolf the whole room would be destroyed, i doubt she had a wolf.

Talked to her again and she clarified she (named Timberly) was part timber wolf, but she doesn't know how far down, thought you could ID the other half. They didn't have her long so this was the only photo they had: [link]
"Howl at moon", she said was just what she thought, she really just howled all night every night.

Looks like it could be a cross of 2, but more than likely its a 3rd gen, which is allowed in the UK, may be different for the US.
Could be a cross with a husky or a czech wolf dog. Very nice looking dog.
Two wolf hyrbids i have experiance with wouldn't make very good pets, walking them is out of the question unless you are super strong, they drag. (These have an outdoor enclosure) They're jumpy and arn't affraid to jump up to your face, and definately arn't afraid to give you a good nip or growl. Generally, less nervous and skitzy than wolves, but definately would not be good with children, although im sure with an experianced handler, wolf gens would make alright pets. Also, they suit raw meat better than a regular canine diet, but really most working/big dogs (aka not toy breeds because of the bones) should have some part of a raw diet.
Well, from what i've got (as experiance as a keeper that is), our ones generally make more noise during the day, i live on site when working at the zoo and you can hear them at the other end of the zoo, and my trailer was only really a few foot away.

We live in the State of Texas, where purebred wolves aren't allowed to even be transported, received, or given, much less owned. But any hybrid (any generation) is generally allowed ownership no problem.
They received her as an extremely young puppy and just tried to raise her like a dog. My aunts/mother were experienced with a variety of weird pets outside the farm (including sheep, pigs, strays, chipmunks, and ferrets). Timberly in particular wasn't the tamest canine she had owned, but wasn't overly destructive nor horrifically aggressive.
When the apartment complex owner found out he nearly made them kill her or he would kill Timberly himself. His fear was her attacking and killing somebody's kid or something.
I've heard worse from pit bulls though; but turned the wrong way and any canine is dangerous.

some people actually own them or wolfdogs, not talking about educational or refuge places but individuals as pets.
Needless to say they are usuay not good pets which leads them to be given to refuges that are strapped at capacity.
So things can be worse than people just making stuff up.
Some things I hear that happen I wish people were making up.

Considering that wolves and dogs may technically be the same species (or extremely close...they can interbreed, btw) it's quite possible that a LOT of people own wolves, but just don't really know it or think of it that way. ;D

There are differences between wolves and domesticated dogs. I mean you can't really call a domesticated dog a wolf anymore, they are merely dogs.

A-Spirit-of-Roses In reply to Draycros [2012-10-25 22:15:17 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I know there are obvious difference. ^^ I am NOT implying that they ARE the same thing, (you obviously can't adopt a wolf and expect it to have the same level of trainability and/or temperament as a domesticated dog. Though some dogs are more trainable then others...)
However, in general animals may be considered the same "species" if they are able to interbreed and produce fertile offspring. Wolves and dogs are able to do this. (I do NOT encourage it, though. Just so you know...)
Dogs aren't the same as wolves but they are both part of the Canidae family. One could possibly argue that dogs are a sort of sub-species of wolf that have been intentionally (by humans) mutated and specialized.

I bathed a few Dingos where I work in the grooming salon. They aren't shy or skittish like wolves. The Dingo was actually used to develop the Australian Cattle Dog so that breed of dog already HAS wild dog in it. The Dingos I bathed are really smart and make the weirdest sounds...but they are nothing like a wolf or wolfdog.

I hope your joking.. PETA kills more animals than they save, they should be ashamed to call themselves charity for animals.
Their ultimate aim is to stop pets, zoo's or keeping any animals at all, and a lot turn to violence which is not the right way to go about it.

But if you really want it,well...
Let's talk like gentlemen.
You know where you can shove your attitude improvement?Deep in your f*cking ass with your lecture book and all the fucks I give about someone on the internet telling me what to do in my life.
Rude enough for you to call it a day and say you didn't come for nothing? That's a pity story for sure, now get off me or I'll block you because I don't have all the day to deal with my message board.

HAHA oh my that cracked me up.
You asked me a question in the last message so you got an answer.
Of course i read books I'm at university, at least i am getting education and wont become someone that doesn't care what i do or what a difference i make.
Seriously, you really do have an attitude marching around being rude to people, personally i don't care what happens to you, but if you have such a negative outlook on life you are just breathing other peoples valuable air.
I really do not care if you block me, maybe when you have grown up you will look back at yourself and think how small of a speck you are but how much of an ass you were to everyone.

And for the last time,if you wanna lecture someone, well why don't you start with your mirror?Looks like he really, really needs a lil' introspection.

Stalk you? I actually have a relationship thanks.
My parents have bought me up to be very well mannered, just cannot stand narrow minded arrogant people such as yourself. Maybe your parents didn't love you enough.
There really isn't much wrong with me, i get great grades, i have a fantastic job, i have great friends, a great family and a relationship. I have something to be proud of. I'm not actually male either.
Frankly i think you should go speak to someone, you clearly have problems.
