hmmm, i would say it is about the complexities of a manifold nature - the condition of being both a mind and a body, the introverted thinker and an external figure, who one really is and the workable persona cast for the world, the eccentricities of thinking wrapped in an exterior and more utilitarian mechanism that is held for durability and strength in the world - of being a smaller person inside the image or illusion of a regular sized person made and held to contend with the world..
but i don't think of it as a tragic arrangement, just a curiosity and a part of life, which is why i use very vivid colors generally - i strive for hope in life - though the difficulties of life are tiresome and certainly a 'weathering of the storm' so there in front of him is a large looming presence of a storm cloud - though it is isolated as just one large cloud - thus it is manageable and observable, and even relatively distant, though it takes up the whole view for the time being.
though i made this when i was more visual and expressive that way, i was younger and just becoming an artist... now i can put it words better I suppose - though, i think the visual images work better for that. If i made it again, there would be an infinite level of arms and lower bodies coming off of him in some sort of optic illusion bending back through him.
photo-manipulations are sort of limiting because you need to find what you are looking for -
before long i'll be moving towards painting these sorts of images - if i can ever find the time!!!

Well now that you explained your concept I see the image differently. Though when I first saw it, I thought it looked like a child putting on the costume of an adult. Kind of like these days kids don't have that much of a chance to experience childhood and are forced to be more grown up in all aspects.
By the way the image didn't strike as tragic at all. It seems peaceful and full of hope, like the person is ready for the world and is facing it front on.
Yes there are advantages and disadvantages of expressing oneself visually or through words. I guess the one that expresses the true feelings best is the one to pick...

awesome manip. just the bottom below the clouds, any reason for it being so blurry? other than that, the colors are awesome, the brightness of the complete image is really nice.

I think this is one of you best pieces. You know that I know that your castle manips (which are nevertheless awesome) were much more hard work to realise then this one.

Excellent. Great job you did with the manip. Very simple and incredibly effective.
A few things that would really dial this in tho: I'd start with the arms. I think they're beautiful, but too symmetrical. Using a true right and left, or maybe some different shading... Secondly, it really feels like the fore and background are competing too much. They seem to have a similar luminance value. But at the same time, the clouds seem way too bright. I dunno, it kinda flattens out the whole thing.
Again, i really like this and think you've done a fantastic job.

Very interesting. I get a sence of uneasiness. I think, because one of the first things I notice, is how the whole picture seems a bit off balance, from his posture, to the cloud. I don't know what it is. Possibly my lack of sleep! The arms give me such a strange feeling, I can't describe it. and the smoothness of the picture. It's very very eerie.

haha, yeah, I'm reading a book about lucid dreams, and this image came to mind... hmm, semblance means a likeness, image, or outward appearance... It's supposed to stand for that, as a person has who they seem to be, and who they really are, he's in front of the open sky because that is how we also are, floating in world, with every direction to choose from..
