Description So this it what I've been working on since I got home to Florida...I mean this is ALL I've been working on, for the past week ^^

It started when I found and AMAZING CG render of Leliana. I got to work drafting patterns and I didn't stop.

I've never made armour this complex before; it's the first time I've made an armour pattern and done extensive wet-forming for the chest. So far, it's going quite well.

It's made from 4/5oz vegi-tan, hand tooled on the borders. I used black antique for the colour since it's a weird -not quite brown/not quite black- and I think I found a happy medium. I also distressed the leather a little with sand paper.

As I said the armour is wet-formed, and it's held together with contact cement and rivets. It laces up the back and I'm working on a panel that attaches to the back to cover the lacing.

I also have the pauldron and a few more random pieces finished, but I'll post pix of those when they're more interesting to look at ^^

Right now I'm working on the soft leather pieces that go over the armour.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to share/sell your pattern? I'm hoping to do leliana for fanexpo, but am garbage at drafting my own patterns.  Your costume is incredible! I hope mine is half as good

Teach me your magical skills oh great one.
Seriously...wow, I've never worked with leather like this but looking at this id love to remake my Nightingale in real leather!

Oooh. You should go for it. Depending on what you made yours out of (which is awesome by the way) you might be able to use the same patterns for leather. I wanted to do the Nightingale armor, but I'm an assassin first and a thief second so I went with the Shrouded armor instead

Mine was made from craft foam, coated in Plastidip rubber spray. Thanks, I will look into wet forming of leather for sure. I cant believe how beautiful your shrouded armour is, like it's come to life from the game.

I might need some pointers from you on plan-modification of the "AnyTard" armor pattern

to accommodate fighters with, ah, figures.

looking awesome Deanna! what is vegi-tan...is that animal leather free/man made material? are you going to the Lady of the Lakes Ren Fair Nov 5-7 & the Sarasota Medieval fair this year?

Xavietta In reply to deanna23 [2010-10-20 19:22:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank Deanna! Vegi-tan or "vegetable tanned leather" is the leather used mostly for carving/tooling and making stuctured things like belts, armour and holsters, so called for the ingredients used to tan it come from vegetables.

I am doing Sarasota, not sure about Lady of the Lakes...I have to see if I can afford it

aww, damn...I was hoping there was some non-animal (man made) leather. I know that there is, but I don't know if you can make your designs with it.

at least I will definitely see you at Sarasota.

I've actually started making a few of my Etsy items in faux leather since I've had people request it before...I'm not sure of there's an animal free substitute for the vegi-tan though

as long as there is faux leather....I'm down with that. Not too worried about the vegi-tan
