Description At first she was going to have a zipper mouth, but that didn't work out so I thought of the TV girl! She has static eyes and a speaker on the lower part of her jaw. I think it was a good idea and liked how it came out. Any tips to improve this are welcome. Its 6am so I missed some important things.

I don't like the speaker at the bottom of her jaw.

Wait, that's not a bad thing! I think it's grotesque and thus, you have done a nice job in the horror part of this!

Sweet!

The eye's are very well done and the most powerful part of this image. The concept is very nice.
you might try finding some stock of real tears to use, and play with the textures a little so they all blend in together.

Very nice, I really lik it. the tears are getting on my nerve though, they don't really look realistic like the rest of the manip does.

Very interesting piece. The eyes are the windows to our souls, and if everyone took the time to look into our souls a little bit harder then they would see the real person inside of us. I also like the speaker mouth, reminds me of how many of us are screaming to be heard and getting no attention.

This is positively creepy and impactful; but i would like it if the tears on the left of the image were blending a little bit more What really makes it stand out is her eyes. They really draw the viewer in; first thing i looked at when i saw it

I like the concept, and I like the execution of it. . . another woman with no mouth. Brr

The tears are not convincing, they don't blend in well with the rest of the picture. Otherwise, a great manipulation.

Once again I'd change the texture to go more in alignment with the face curves This piece does inspire a sorrowful type of emotion very well. The tears were a nice touch. Did you think of making a bloody tear coming out of the other eye?. I think the pics got great potential, just some of the effects need to be made a little more realistic. Good job and great idea's in this pic

I really like the way you do the empty eyes. The weathered texture to this just adds to the magic and emotion of this peace, and even though her eyes are totally empty and vacant, you can almost sense the rage and hurt behind them.

blahbig [2005-04-18 13:34:16 +0000 UTC]

My overall first impression would be that this is a competent piece of photo manipulation. As =reality7 has already said there are no really obvious points where manipulation is evident, like clumsy clone stamping or the like, and the textures seem reasonably well applied. The whole piece is a pretty convincing and detailed construction.

That said I think you could push this to a higher level of detailing and hence to a higher shock value. An example would be the eyes, the idea of using static is a nifty one and it’s executed quite well, but could you make them more realistic? I think they’d look better if you made them appear spherical like a real eye is - you’ve got the highlight on the eye which to some extent creates that but I think if you replicated shadow on them too you’d make them more convincing. Have a look at a real eye as reference and check out the shadow and attempt to replicate that, note that shadow would fall most heavily under the eyelid, where you actually have the highlight hence you might need to drop those highlights down a bit. You might also get the noise on the eye a little sharper in places too.

The bits you’ve overlayed across the face look okay too but again I think you could bring them to a higher level of finish. In some cases (the blood on her forehead, the tear and the scar especially) they look a little hard edged – some very soft and subtle shading behind them will help blend them more convincingly into the face. The textures on the shoulders are very well blended though.

The cracked texture that you’ve softly overlayed across the whole of her face is what I find the least convincing here. I can’t quite say why that is unfortunately but it might be that if they really were cracks across her face then they’d actually be quite contrasted – the pits of the cracks would be really quite dark compared to the lightness of the flesh, much darker then what you have. Don’t know if that’s right but it’s my impression.

Anyway that’s all I have to say on this work. It’s well composed and quite well pieced together. An idea well executed.
