Name: Kohaku Masaru
Name meaning: Amber Victory (lol)
Age: 16
Personality: calm, withdrawn, shy, intelligent, seems emo, quiet
Likes: being alone, sweets, hacking into government mainframes, working on investigations and comparing his results to L's
Dislikes: talking, talkative people, Kira, anything related to Kira
Hobbies: working on his hacking program SMHP (system mainframe hacking program), working on investigations and comparing his results to L's, trying to figure out Kira's identity using clues from his killings and patterns of killing
Occupations: High school student
Grade: Sophomore
GPA: 4.0 (he's super intelligent xD)
About him: Kohaku's silence is a mystery, as he comes from a very wealthy and outgoing family. His older sister, Kaori, is a collage protege, being only 17 and already in Harvard University, studying to become a lawyer. Kohaku and Kaori, before Kaori left for Harvard, were as close as they could be. Unfortunately, she had to leave before he graduated high school, ruining their relationship. His mother was a star model in Tokyo and his father a scientist that had moved from Kansas to Tokyo to raise his children. Naturally, his father wanted Kohaku to become an intelligent scientist like him while his mother focused most on Kaori. His father often took him to his job and had Kohaku help him with his experiments. Kohaku, despite his intelligence, couldn't live up to his father's expectations, so he was enrolled in a school for aspiring scientists. Kohaku passed with flying colors, amazingly, and confused his father, who couldn't understand why he seemed so distant and unhelpful at home. Kohaku then, once hearing of Kira, locked himself in his room, resolving to figure out who Kira was.
One day, Kira took it too far. Itsuki Yori, one of Kohaku's closest and only friends, was arrested for false charges of theft and assault. Kohaku went to visit Itsuki on one of his last days in jail, joyful for once that his friend would be free. However, Kira seemed to think that Itsuki deserved to die, and killed him through a heart attack. Kohaku was devestated and completely sure that it was Kira. Kohaku was walking home from the jail, where he had been interviewed by the crew there, when he was picked up by none other than Aizawa himself, who then returned Kohaku to the Kira Investigation team headquarters and escorted him to a private room somewhere within the building. Kohaku was interrogated by Aizawa and Mogi, turning up only more suspicions. After quickly figuring out that Mogi and Aizawa were looking for Kira, he demanded to join, to gain revenge for his fallen friend. Most of the investigation team were overjoyed that they had found someone that was willing to help search for Kira, but L and Light were skeptical. L wanted to get more information on Kohaku first and Light was seeing Kohaku as a threat to his secret identity as Kira. L, after getting a full background check on Kohaku, deemed him as fit to join the team, though Light objected.
As soon as Kohaku walked through the doors of the investigation main room and was given the alias of Kenta Ryouta, Light made it a personal goal to kill him. Kohaku proved useful to the investigation, pointing out abnormalities in the kill patterns, finding details that Light or L had somehow missed, and giving opinions that helped support one belief or another. All the while, Kohaku was keeping tabs on all members of the team, especially Aizawa and Light Yagami, his two prime suspects, to figure who might be Kira, if any, in the team. Kohaku eventually eliminated Light and focused more on Aizawa, until L's death.
When L was killed, all Kohaku's suspicions transferred to Misa Amane and Light Yagami and he began raking their backgrounds like crazy, looking for suspicious events, things that may have led them to kill, things like that. He finally narrowed his suspicions back to Light Yagami and began investigating him thoroughly. Light's father quickly picked up on his behavior and told him off, asking why he was stalking Light like he was. Kohaku refused to answer, which started suspicions on him by the rest of the team. Many of the team began suspecting that he was Kira, while Light began covering his tracks to the best of his ability. Light also began working on investigating Kohaku and attempting to uncover his real name.
Unfortunately, Light was faster than Kohaku. As soon as Kohaku had evidence to prove that Light was Kira, he was killed. Naturally, this spurred the team on to find Kira even more, though it also deprived the team of Kohaku's intelligence.
