Description I s' pose I should specify that it's for RaggedyxSam's contest [link] I went through a number of concepts before deciding to borrow Houston from an rp of mine.

As a side note, to Doc Bollocks: This is an alternate universe/near future version of Houston. I hope you don't mind my using him for this.

Houston DeWitt

Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 185
Age: 17
Orientation: Gay
Extra: As a subtle statement to his mother, Houston has a tattoo written at the base of his neck: 2 Sam. 1:26
Theme Song: Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls

Personality:
- Usually puts the feelings of others ahead of his own
- Slow to anger, but once he gets angry, well, things are usually pretty bad by that point.
- Is a really good cook. Likes seeing his cooking enjoyed
- Although he has a sillier side, he tends to look/act slightly more mature than his peers.
- Is actually pretty stubborn when he sets his mind to something
- Is very protective of his friends

Likes:
- Cooking
- Classic media (Classic films and books, older music). Appreciates the newer stuff, but really digs the older material.
- Keeping up with politics

Dislikes:
- Bullies and bigots
- Being used/controlled/manipulated
- Feeling exposed or vulnerable

Relationships:
- Had a crush on a closeted guy for a while. Didn’t work out.
- Looking for someone who won’t take him for granted.

Background: Houston was raised in a devoutly religious household. Well, his mother's fairly religious, anyway. She's also fairly involved in local politics. His father just kind of follows her lead. So did Houston, for most of his early life. Up until his mid-teens, he did pretty much what his mother expected of him: being a dutiful son, going to church, spending time around the “right people” and avoiding from the “wrong people”, and ignoring his own personal goals or interests. He was quietly miserable.

Then Houston met a group of kids in high school who helped him step out from his mother's influence (Really condensed here). Despite some initial conflict, eventually the two of them reconciled, although their relationship had a different dynamic, one in which Houston is a lot more independent. And honestly, he's still his mother's son, interested in religion and politics, just more open-minded and liberal than his mother.

Due to unrelated circumstances, Houston's parents opted to move to another town. Houston was sorry to leave his friends, but certain events had made things a little awkward for him there. So he's been trying to settle into a new school, make new friends and, cliche as it may sound, find himself. He has discovered, among other things, that he is a decent cook and has been having fun exploring this newly found talent.

Jacks' appreciation of food and his vulnerability would definitely trigger Houston's "mother-hen" instincts.

Like I said, he's an alternate version. You'll never know for certain. Mwahaha! *coughs* Ahem. Just kidding. Yeah, he kinda is. But barring something pretty extreme happening, he probably won't do anything about it.

Honestly, I could see regular Houston deciding to pursue celibacy.

*nods* Yep. He seems like the type that might just decide it was simpler to avoid all the complexities of romance. At least, that would be his plan. It probably wouldn't work out that way. ^^

Xenobody In reply to DoctorBollocks [2009-06-25 16:17:18 +0000 UTC]

Ehh... Not sure how well that would work. For now, barring something extreme happening, I'm thinking Houston's just going to stay single, at the very least.
