Description Direhorses (Pa'li in Na'vi) are the noble steeds of the Na'vi people.

They're something like a cross between a horse, dinosaur, and anteater.

And, just like the other Pandoran creatures, it breaths directly into its lungs through little openings in their chests. Really cool

This guy looks like it's built for life out in the open prairie. Why would a forest-dwelling nectavore want to be built for running long distances?

Yeah, I wish we had blow holes in our chest. That would be so cool, and it would be easier for us to breathe when we run. Since it would be traveling in and out of our mouth or our nose. Less water to drink

Amazing work, I like how you drew the direhorse charging like that. It's rather dramatic.

Haha, someone else's caught the Avatar craze Good job!

Yeah, I think it's strange too that the Na'vi are one of the few creatures that don't have 6 limbs. Also, there is no precedent in their world for the kind of nose they have. I heard someone theorize that their world could be bio-engineered (it wouldn't make sense evolutionarily to have the Bond be so easy to form, at least for individual creatures, they said), so I thought that was an interesting idea.

Haha, I was browsing the Avatar group for creature images and went "Those are some of the good ones! Hey, that kinda looks like Xenothere's work... HEY IT IS HER WORK!"

(Wah! I missed your call saying you were in town, I was so sad. I didn't recognise the number and so didn't pick up, then forgot to check my messages till days later. Ugh! I so wanted to see you again!)

Is it just me or did almost every creature have 6 legs in that movie? except na'vi and ikrans of course.

The Ikran had six limbs- two of them were flight limbs instead of hooved or pawed, but it still had six.

o,thx! but still, i can understand the use of "extra" limbs for making the aliens feel more...alien, but on some of them it's just redundant(look it up!) and feel unneeded. How can the dire horse run effectivly w/ the extra pair, especially with the positioning. Looks like it would trip more than a four legged horse. Also if it were ment for climbing then it would have paws or something else to provide better grip.

Im mistaken, the Toruk have 6 the smaller ones have four. Oh well. In any case, I think the legs work very well together and they don't feel redundant or unneeded. (Look it up? Look what up? You lost me there.) For tripping, I agree, it might have issues- this is why longer legged animals have a different gait than shorter animals, but I didn't watch the gait on the direhorses to see what was going on with it. As for climbing, no it wouldn't have paws for better grip. It would have had hooves, though possibly cloven ones. After all, Mountain goats are -excellent- climbers.

(Sorry it's getting long but you touched on a topic I'm interested in. ^^ I want to do creature rigging and animation!)

but I doubt even mt goat would be able to climb th floating mountains, also(snow leopards for ex.) paws alow silent travel and are less likely to dislodge rocks, reducing the chance of injury and the risk of falling.(about the look it up, I deal with lots of retarded people who don't know the meaning of rather simplistic words. My bad!)

Whee Avatar fanart! That movie blew my brains out. Really played off the idea that everything is connected by literally connecting everything in a kind of neuro-network of individuals. Just, wow.

And also the insane motion capture technology involved in this movie makes me so happy. It is difficult to do something like that without making it seem too creepy or weird.
