Description A polar bear at SeaWorld of California. I thought the whites got a bit blown out on this one, but that puppy dog face was too cute!

Aww... he looks sad, somehow, almost wistful. Wonder what he was thinking. Great capture!

I like how the focus is on the nose. It's a nice one of her face!

Excellent capture! I love the facial expression. No acrylic to mess up the shot?

Nah, I opened the aperture really wide and got the lens right up to the acrylic so that anything on the acrylic was basically blurred out of the picture. That technique works really well in zoos for getting past wire and such, too. Depth of field is your friend!

Ooh! I really need to find out how good my camera is.

Yours should do it, I think. There's probably an aperture priority mode - just set the aperture as low as it will go, and that will narow the depth of field and help you shoot past stuff like that. It doesn't always work 100%, but if nothing else, it helps.

Can you shoot in raw format on the Rebel? Steven did some polar bear shots this weekend that initially looked blown out on the highlights, but the RAW editing thingy brought out all the detail quite well.

Yup, the Rebel can shoot in raw, but for the sake of flash card space I generally shoot in large/superfine JPEG.

ah thats always the problem with polar bears that their white is too bright for the cameras. But you did very well. It looks really cute.

I think this is sweet, and the angle brings the expression across well! Although the polar bear did steal my look!
