I first played Final Fantasy VII on my birthday. I received it and a Playstation together. My mother must have asked my brother what to get me. He'd turned me on to Final Fantasy way back in the Super Nintendo days, with Final Fantasy II (aka Final Fantasy IV). While no Final Fantasy game will ever live up to my first Final Fantasy experience, VII nevertheless was magic. Magic from the very opening scenes. To this day, I don't think I've ever put more time into a game. I easily put in over 100 hours. I discovered secrets that weren't even in the strategy guides. The cursed ring in Mideel. Aeris's ghost in the church. I saw it all.

I haven't played the remake. I probably never will. I played the original. I played it before Final Fantasy VII was Final Fantasy VII. Before the internet was common place. Before remakes were common place. Before the world went mad.
