They don't treat her cruelly. They leave her in the castle because they think that Ganondorf doesn't know about the secret room, thus, with him actively looking for her, they are trying to keep her safe until Link is done. There was probably some way of getting food or water, it's just that it wasn't important to be shown.

I meant that more as a joke. I know why she had to stay in that room, and that video games usually don't show every little detail (no one in that game eats like a normal person). However, I don't like how they had to change Tetra's personality and keep her out of the action once it's revealed she's the princess

I personally think that her personality itself wasn't changed, but that the emotions she tried to hideΒ (since she had to, being a pirate)Β were brought to the surface, and since she'd tried to ignore them for so long, she just didn't know how to deal with them and they burst forth. When she teamed up with Link in the final battle, she seemed to be mostly back to normal, but a little less closed off emotionally.

I always assume Link and Zelda are the same age for some reason, probably because I played OoT first. I guess Link is probably more likely to be younger. Although, girls also have their growth spurts earlier, so there's that too.
