My drawing of Ed Sheeran. Ed is one of the contemporary artists that I really really like. He's down to earth, and not so much like other artists. If you don't know him yet, I recommend you check him out on youtube. Or just immediately buy his album '+'
Right now, a few weeks after I drew this, Ed himself has got the drawing
He even personally thanked me, and said it was 'incredible'. Very nice of course

Hey, can you tell me what types of pencils did you use? And would be nice if you told me which pencil for which part of the drawing ^^ It's awesome!

Sorry for the late reply but I rarely check deviantart. First I used a lot of different pencils, but nowadays I only use a mechanical pencil 0.5 mm and a 8B pencil for the dark parts. That's it, haha. It's not a specific brand (the mechanical pencil). It's just a simple one I bought at a post office. The 8B pencil is from Derwent I believe but any brand will do

I don't think I ever replied to you. Either way...I gave it to him at a concert. Back then he performed in one of the smaller venues of the Netherlands. His manager was just randomly walking around so I showed him the drawing and he was impressed so that way it was easy

How do you get the character of people in a portrait drawing? Whenever I try they just look like random people without even looking humanlike, more scared, out of proportion dolls than an individual

I usually look for certain characteristics in a face. In Ed Sheeran's case, it was his broad face and of course hair. It takes a lot of patience to get a drawing to look like the person you're trying to draw. It takes a while before it actually looks like that person, even when the eyes or something are exactly alike

Yup, they are. I honestly hate it how people think they can just post a drawing and get credits for it. I reported it though. Hope Deviantart takes it down, cause I actually have pictures of when the drawing was partly finished. Thanks again
