Julian was born to a middle class family, but his father left when he was young, leaving his mother to raise him with his grandfather at their family Shrine. At a young age Julian was more into video games than he was spending time at the shrine, he became one of the lucky few people to get a copy of the SAO game, and on the day of the launch, like the others he was trapped in the game.

After a short time, Julian, known as Thoraden in SAO, met other players at the first boss meeting, one was a fiery red haired girl named Kurumi, after the boss was defeated, the team decided to stay together as they worked so well with one another, and Kurumi suggested they make a guild, which they named the 'Scarlet Blazers' in honor of their Guild leader Kurumi who they said seemed to be a blaze of Scarlet when she fought.

A while after Thoraden went on a solo quest, and the remainder of the guild went to do their own quest, and were killed by player killers in the process, with Thoraden being completely oblivious to it. One day he saw a familiar red hair and pink armor of Kurumi and went to talk to her, only to find out the girl was not Kurumi, but in fact her identical twin sister named 'Suzu', it's also at this point that Thoraden learned that Kurumi and the guild had been killed, leaving him in shock. Suzu then took him to her house so he could think clearly, when she suggested that he should sleep and offered half her bed to him, in which he accepted, only the next morning to have shifted into a awkward position and to be thrown half way across the room, when he accidentally squeezed Suzu's breast after she was started by Vanilla, Kurumi's familiar. He then learned that Suzu had been gifted Kurumi's armor, and suggested that maybe Kurumi told Vanilla to find Suzu if something should happen to her. No longer wanting to keep the guild hideout due to it's past memories, Thoraden suggested he and Suzu should form a party, since neither of them had places to go, since Suzu's plan was to form a part with Kurumi, who had now passed on, in which Suzu agreed to.

After a few months of living with Suzu, Thoraden joined the assault team and was introduced to Hel, the teams Player Killer spy. Later it is revealed that he was romantically involved with Suzu's sister, Kurumi, and was not with the guild when they were murdered because he was planning to propose to Kurumi, which caused Suzu to freaks out, after sorting the issue with Suzu, he returned home to find Hel in the house when she suddenly passed out, after much talking, Hel joined Thoraden and Suzu, forming the guild: The Guilded Wolves.
