I think this version is the better one. The lighter areas (that are absent in the other version), that you added make it so that she has a lot more depth to her. In a monotone piece contrast is very important in creating the illusion of depth.
Personally I would take it even further and add a couple of small spots of even lighter color, however, I think this looks very nice as is. Especially since you only took 2 hours

Somehow I would love to see this in charcoal

I heard that somewhere already before. I'll try once a similar image in charcoal

It looks great. I do like those folds and shadows on the clothes. It looks rough but you can distinguish cloth textures. On the other hand more detailed face would bring this image more into the focus. So my suggestion would be to work on her face more and add more lighting to the image.

It's rather difficult to make this image more detailled in the face, since it's drawn from an old image. I don't know where to add more details.
I already lightened the image. before it was darker

I saw that you lightened the image but little more light wouldn't harm.
Detailing the face isn't too difficult. First move her lips and tip of her nose a bit to the right (your and my right). Soften her cheeks, ridges around her nostrils and skin beneath the eyebrow. Put more light on the right side of her nose chin and center of her forehead.
Her nostrils aren't completely black so you have to make nice transition from semi dark to dark tone. Her upper lip is a bit lighter that yours and it darkens on the left edge. Cleaning the lines on her upper and lower eyelid and smoothing shadows could do the trick too.

If you haven't done that already set tablet pressure to opacity so that your opacity changes with pen pressure as you paint. That way you'll blend the shades more easily.

I actually didn't want a blended picture.; I didn't want it to look soft and plastic, like my other works. I'll see what I can do on the other things.

I doesn't have to be soft blending. Pick a hard texture-like brush and try with it. That blending wouldn't be soft and plastic.

For #GimmeFeedback I really love your drawing, it's so realistic and beautiful! The clothing seem to have the right folds and, well, every other bit of detail is awesome! I also like the other version too
However, I have to say you do need some highlights to make it even better. It sorta seems to fade into the background with all the values close to the same.
You should have a good light source for the picture and put some light on the subject Maybe around the edges of the woman?

How do you mean around the edges of the woman?

I'm going to try to add a bit more light to see what it gives.

I have to say I like this one better. The additional highlights gives it extra depth and realism. If anything, I think you should increase both the high and low lights.

I replaced the old drawing with an updated version. Do you think it's better now

I think so.

xNatje In reply to tymora11 [2011-08-15 11:44:37 +0000 UTC]

so you think I should add even more contrast to this one?
I was a bit afraid to make it too plastic looking (since I get this a lot when I work in photoshop)

Thanks for the advice

tymora11 In reply to xNatje [2011-08-15 14:52:04 +0000 UTC]

That can be somewhat of a problem; the trick is to keep it from looking shiny while still enhancing the tones. I don't think it's plastic looking, and could probably afford a few higher lights in a few places without turning plastic-y, but I'm not really an expert.

Yeah, when it becomes too shiny, it's like plastic. I'm not an expert either
