Description Sooo, I wasn't really thrilled with the way Johnny Depp looks in this movie, but the more I looked at the character, the more it grew on me. He always portrays different-looking characters, so it's not like I didn't expect it.

I decided to try another drawing in sharpie and pastels.. and since this character was very colorful and bright... I figured this is the one I had to do.
After I scanned it in, I edited it a bit in Photoshop with the burn/dodge tool.

I am actually somewhat pleased with how this turned out.

It so awesome how you managed to do this with just pastels and sharpies! Especially since you can't erase anything. It's wonderful work!

yes! the pastels and sharpies were a lot of fun I had to be really careful with the pastels though just because once the mark is made, it can never be completely erased or picked up. So that part was difficult.

Great work with mixed media! The colors are fantastic! I can't believe some of that detail is in sharpie!!

I agree, I was a little put off by the looks of the Mad Hatter as well, but after seeing the film earlier this evening I have to say he did an amazing job with the role and I don't think I would have wanted him looking any other way!

haha, yes! I love his crazy characters and the colors that went along with his role was very fun as well.
and the sharpies were fun I had to be very careful where I put lines because of it though. I'm used to my erasers.

haha I don't think I could make anything without my erasers...I'd be too afraid! XD You get major props for keeping such clean lines and not messing up with the sharpie!

I quite like how he looks in this, it's strange that he looks gorgeous however he dresses I liked him as Edward Scissorhands.

Great work here too! Looks fantastic, the boldness of the sharpies really make it stand out

haha yesss. That's what I was going for. When I first saw the reference photo of the Mad Hatter, I was determined that I had to do something with it and make the colors stand out and.. pop!

Well you certainly did,your welcome..oh yes that design,theirs alot happening there too with textures and details.I have ben a Tim Burton/Johnny Depp fantaic since I was six,Burton changed the way I look at art forever,it's his fault I am a fanatic now.

I think it's pretty neat that you've been a fan that long.

As a little kid I never linked my favorite movies Pee Wees Big Adventure,Beetlejuice,Batman.I knew I loved something about them very unique the music the designs.Then my grand parents took me too see Edward Scissorhands,it struck me really hard because I could identify if not sympathize with Edward,as being an artist and misunderstood,plus all that adolescent stuff that comes later hahahaWe all have a bit of Edward in us and Tim as well)Tim and Johnny are like brothers I never had somehowHave you ever related to someone like that?The same with Jim Henson and Walt Disney,family and friends through the growing years I suppose

Hmm, I've never really connected with someone entirely, like they're like a brother or sister.. Although I do end up growing close to actors and their characters. Some of them just because I love seeing them over and over.. their personality and such.
And that's true, at that age, a young kid could kind of experience a bit of Edward and relate to him. I've never really thought about it before now. That's pretty neato.

I suppose I do that with characters and such because I am an only child.Maybe?Yes Tim is Edward and I am sure Johnny had his own Edward moments growing up hahaha

haha yes! I like that a lot about it as well. From a distance it looks like super realistic, but when getting closer to it, it's easy to tell it's not as much. It's fun to experiment with it. :3

I like doing it like this because it's quicker, but I also like my super realistic regular drawings. I'm just like not inspired as much to do one right now. xD
