The Scrap robots are almost a new type in their own right, born from the war between man and machine, but their origins remain a mystery. It is common belief that they exist because of a new kind of programming to reduce mechanical losses in the war.
Although this is incorrect, it has elements of the truth.

There was indeed programming granting the capacity to repair one another however this was only intended after small scale damage.
But after a large battle, one unit was intact enough to repair other broken robots using the materials in the wreckage surrounding it, however it was damaged enough to forget all other objectives.
This 'botched job' is what led to the repaired units to 'collaborate on their objectives' which brought them to the conclusion they would not be repaired if they returned to the other machines, for they were made of weakened materials. Normally they would voluntarily be disassembled and recycled, however these units no longer had such programming. Instead, they began to scour for parts to build entirely new robots from the great scrap heap which grew between the territories of the machines and the remnants of humanity.
