Johnny is typically amiable, reminding many of a good friend they used to have when they were younger due to his youthful and curious nature. He’s had an itch to steal ever since he was young, but even when his dad found out about it, he just thought that Johnny was a difficult child, and Johnny embraced that. Up until the present day, he still hasn’t been diagnosed. His friends would call him a “klepto” for laughs, sometimes, “Kelpie” as a result of a really bad typo in a group chat, because they’re all ignorant and don’t know that it’s actually a real mental illness.

Johnny has a personal code for when he takes:
he never takes from small businesses or those can’t afford it

he only takes inexpensive, non-sentimental, replaceable things

if he gets caught (highly unlikely), he will likely apologize and return it

if he steals from a friend or friend’s friend, he sneaks it back after a while

He was born in Hawaii, to parents who divorced after only two years of marriage. The settlement left his mother free to devote her life to family businesses in Hong Kong, and provide Johnny with financial support, something she was more than happy to give. Meanwhile, Johnny was left in the care of his dad, a head chef in the US Navy. Because of this, by the time he turned 18, he’d lived in a total of six countries, four US states, and attended eight different schools. It would have been more, but his father had met a nice American lady in Washington. There, his half-sister was born. Wanting to be present for the first years of her life, Johnny’s father had them settle temporarily.

Other years of Johnny’s life were marked by a lot of casual flings, quick friends, petty theft, and lessons his biological mom enrolled him in. Compared to then, he thrived for four years in Washington (3 yrs were HS). He even stole less because of the everpresent family support. However, these days were short-lived because once his half-sister was old enough, his father packed up to resume work, taking Johnny with him once more.

Later, in California, Johnny got his BS in Biology and an R&D job for a fancy company. All was well, up until he got arrested for stealing a Thumper Tsum Tsum at Disneyland. His parents were disappointed, his biological mother, especially. As a result, although she cleaned up his mess, she cut him off from his trust fund until he could get himself together.

After a few months, Johnny could feel his lack of experience in budgeting. It was then that he got the idea to go back to Washington, where his stepmom and favorite sister still lived. Once he settled things at his job, he got his dog and bags, hopped in his car, and went on a road trip. Real estate prices in his stepmom’s city was steep, but luckily a town nearby had cheaper housing, and Johnny found himself taking root there.
