(Normal P.O.V.)

Complete and utter sadness...

Thats what you felt at this very moment, and it stung worse than the venom from a Cobra bite; the Seal of Orichalcos had struck once again, and had taken yet another soul.

But it wasn't just any soul...

It was Yugi's.

Yugi's soul had been taken away, and the Pharaoh was blaming himself for it;
"IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME! NOT HIM! IT'S NOT FAIR!", you heard him cry out as he dropped to his knees and wept. Whilst pounding on the Earth beneath him, the Pharaoh actually looked defeated and...well- broken. Your fingers itched to help him and console him, but it was probably a better idea to let him calm down a bit first; after all he was mourning and it was only natural that people wanted to be left alone then.
...
However, you still insisted that he got in the car with the rest of the gang (rather than ride on horseback to camp)- which he declined, and that only left you worrying about him more.

As soon as you got back to the campsite however, you really kicked yourself for not pressing the Pharaoh for a ride enough- because he was only met with a load of questioning from Rebecca- which quite honestly didn't help the situation at all. Rebecca proceeded to list off a ton of questions and statements that were meant to be directed at Yugi; however, since she had no idea what had happened previously...well...

"Rebecca Yugi's gone..." the Pharaoh stated with no emotion other than complete sadness and regret.

With that, her face scrunched up in confusion and as a result tried to let another question slip; that is until you stopped her, and led her away from Yami for a bit so you could have a proper chat with her- you also didn't want to upset Yami any further.

"So let me get this straight; Yugi's soul has been taken from his body which contains two separate personalities?" Rebecca asked, still unsure if what she was hearing was true, to which you nodded and proceeded to tell her that the spirit resides within the Millennium Puzzle around Yugi's (now Yami's) neck. Her eyes widened in understanding as she finally pieced together what was going on, she is a prodigy after all; as you led her back towards the campsite however, you heard an argument raging out the front. Worried and genuinely concerned about your friends, you left Rebecca inside (just in case things got ugly) and ran towards the source of the noise...only to find Joey ranting about Yami's moping and self-loathing state. "YOU GOTTA SNAP OUT OF IT!", you heard before you saw Joey's fist raise towards the Pharaoh; but without thinking, you jumped in front of the spirit and took the hit yourself.

However whilst falling to the ground, you noticed a large rock on your way down which you put out your arms to hopefully avoid; but alas the effort was all in vain. With a sickening (and audible) 'CRACK!', a bone in your right arm had given way and you were currently clutching it, while trying to nurse your bruised cheekbone on the ground at the same time. Joey now noticed what he had done, and immediately retracted his fist in pure disbelief "(Y/N)! Oh jeez I'm so sorry!"; Téa then chose to speak up, eyes still partially wide from shock "Joey! Stop it right now! Yugi wouldn't want us to fight like this! And you've also hurt (Y/N)!" she said whilst rushing to your side. For once ignoring the expressions of a bewildered Pharaoh and an extremely sorry Joey, Téa procceded to help you up (by grabbing your left arm) and walk you to the tent as she shook her head in disappointment. You then left, mumbling a quiet but sincere "it's okay Joey" to the clearly sympathetic boy, but also managing a small reassuring smile to both the Pharaoh (who surprisingly looked genuinely concerned) and him, before being carted off towards the tent; where you both were greeted once again by Rebecca's grandfather, her, Duke and Tristan. Being led to a makeshift bed inside the tent, you clutched your arm and winced at the unbearable pain that shot through your arm every time you tried to move it. As your arm was strapped up and put in a sling it started to hurt again, and you would let out occasional whimpers and and hissing noises when pressure was applied to the injured area. "Ah, it's only a minor fracture, however it will take at east three months to heal properly" Arthur (Rebecca's grandfather) stated with a comforting smile, as Téa, Tristan, Duke and Rebecca looked at you with sorry expressions on their faces whilst hearing the news.

"I'm just going to go outside for a bit to hopefully get Joey to calm down before he comes in," stated Téa as she took one last look at your arm before clenching her hands into fists and walking outside, with Tristan and Duke in tow- probably about to give everyone a mouthful about how friendship means 'we stick together, and never fight each other'. Smiling in content about that thought you laid back on the mattress and proceeded to try and get some sleep- 'today was definitely the longest day of my life' you thought before dosing off.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~In the dream (still Normal P.O.V.)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yami had played the seal once again, and was now facing you.
You fought valiantly against his every move, but you were having absolutely terrible luck so far; even if you believed in the heart of the cards with all your might, nothing seemed to be working. No matter how good you thought your strategy was, the Pharaoh was always able to deflect every single one of them- like he was invincible. Of course you lost, and your last card (Y/F/M/C) was destroyed along with a trap card that you had placed (somehow hoping to trip him up); your life-points hit '0' and you were absolutely startled by what happened next.
An evil smirk turned up Yami's lips along with a menacing crimson glare that could definitely match Marik's, as well as a pose that could only be described as threatening and dangerous. His smirk widening even more as you cowered back in fear, and began to take a few steps backward before reaching the very edge of the dueling arena. He then spoke those fateful words...
"YOU LOSE."
And then Yami let the most terrifying laugh you have ever heard in your life fall from in-between his lips, as he made his way towards you; the eye of Anubis now adorning his forehead instead of the Orichalcos. However, before he could get any closer you had tripped over your own feet and fell off of the edge of the arena- still hearing the Pharaoh's deranged laughter echoing throughout the air as you went.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~End of dream~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Normal P.O.V.)

Waking up in a cold sweat, you still slightly shook in absolute terror from the nightmare that you had just witnessed- after all it is the most awful dream that you have ever had thus far. Running your shaky hands through your (H/C) locks whilst staring at the clock on the bench across from the mattress, you decided to go outside for a bit. However before you could move a single muscle, you were stopped by a strong arm across the lower part of your ribcage; "don't, you need rest", a voice you knew all-too-well said.

It was the Pharaoh's arm.

As you turned your gaze towards him, you noticed that Yami looked very upset with himself, as he refused to look at your luminous (E/C) eyes before stating "you didn't have to defend me, I deserved that punch after what I did." Looking at him in shock and absolute disbelief you shook your head frantically- despite the nightmare you just had- (you knew that the Pharaoh would never harm you) and grabbed one side of his face, making him look at you before replying "no Pharaoh, no you didn't- it wasn't your fault, I chose to take that punch..." you sighed sadly but continued "and I know that Yugi chose to go instead because he trusts that you will do the right thing and try to get him back." After your reply you noticed the Pharaoh looked absolutely stunned by your conclusion of the matter at hand, but you weren't finished yet "I know that because no matter what everyone else says, I will always see you as a good person..." your voice started to crack along with the tears streaming down your cheeks "...and...th...this face" you brushed your hand against his cheek again "can d-do no wrong in my eyes." You finished your speech, with your hand still lingering on the Pharaoh's face as he tried to make sense of what you were saying- but before long you felt another hand reach up and stroke your own. "You're right (Y/N)" he stated softly which honestly shocked you, after all he had been all mopey and dull merely moments ago; however, when he managed to direct a small smile in your direction, you knew that you had said something that had put the spirit's mind at ease.

"That's great to hear...but I'd best be going back to bed, after all it is 11 pm," you simply stated before before gently pulling away from the Pharaoh's loose grip on your hand, only to be stopped again. His hand had gripped your good arm before you had even had the chance to move out of his line of vision, only to pull you closer to his body so there was almost no space in-between you- whilst being mindful of your injury. "(Y/N), did you mean what you said? About me never being able to do any wrong?" he whispered whilst looking deeply into your (E/C), to which you blushed in response and nodded in confirmation "yes, I really did mean it Yami", after all that speech came from the bottom of your heart. Then the Pharaoh spoke up again, with a hint of sadness reappearing in his eyes "but Rafael said that I was an evil Pharaoh-" "-No!" you cut him off mid-sentence, knowing that it was false "whatever Rafael said about you is wrong! You have a heart Pharaoh, and someone like you could never do any of the evil things he spoke of..." you looked at him directly in the eye "...and I know that you never will!" After stopping you took a breather, the Pharaoh looked surprised due to the fact that he wasn't expecting you to defend him at all; he was thinking that you would agree with him- but of course you didn't- after all, you stood firmly on your beliefs. Recovering from your sudden outburst from earlier, the Pharaoh leaned in closer so your noses were practically touching (which honestly shocked you) and quietly spoke "I feel a strange emotion take over my being whenever you are around (Y/N), I have never felt this way about someone before so..." he took a deep breath before finishing "...for a long time I searched for what it could mean...," you definitely knew where this was going. Your eyes sparkled, and were instantly filled with happy tears as you gave the Pharaoh's hand a reassuring squeeze with your own and a smile- urging him to continue. "...And even though I still think that I don't deserve you..." he looked back into your captivating (E/C) eyes before he gained the last bit of courage to finish "...every day I see you, once again- you continue to prove me wrong"; he then stopped and looked directly into your eyes, with nothing but love and adoration in his deep purple hues.

"I love you (Y/N). There is no denying it. I know that a confession may sound selfish at a time like this, but you have made me feel hope again...to the point where I would practically worship the ground that you walk on."

Your blush got redder, and you noticed hints of a blush start to form on the Pharaoh's cheeks as well; but you didn't have time to properly analyse everything that was going on before something brushed your lips. After being a little unsure at first, you proceeded to lean forward to meet him halfway as his lips worked tenderly against yours. Both of you were staying in perfect sync with each other as the searing, desperate, passionate kiss got deeper; feeling a pair of arms wrap protectively around your waist, you then ran your left arm up around his muscular shoulders in order to kiss him more- neither of you wanted to stop, needing to feel the others body heat. But of course, there is that stupid thing called 'air' so you both reluctantly pulled away; when you did so though, the Pharaoh proceeded to pull out what looked like a medallion from his jacket pocket. Before facing you again and then stating "I may not remember a lot about my past, but I now vaguely remember some other things about my past-life" you then realised what adorned the object in question.

It was the Eye of Ra (or Horus).

Blushing only slightly, he stumbled almost embarrassingly over his next sentence "I saw it at a stall that was being operated by an Egyptologist a while back...and of course...I thought that giving it to you now would be a good idea, as it promotes good health and protection amongst other things." You were pleasantly surprised to say the least, mainly because you didn't think of Yami as somebody who would be going out of their way to get anyone gifts. As you came out of your thoughts however, you noticed him fidgeting a bit with his fingers as he began to grow slightly nervous when he presented it to you; "may I?" he questioned, to which you just smiled and lifted your hair to grant him access to your neck. Once he clipped the medallion there, he kissed your forehead and stated "no harm shall come to you my love, and this..." he gestured to the medallion "will assure you of that." You just smiled and hugged him before whispering "I love you too- and if you ever feel like you are being tormented by the darkness again, please tell me- I will be your light" and then giving him a peck on the cheek and a 'thank you' for his gift; the Pharaoh smiling adoringly at you in return before responding: "of course, my Queen."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Le Time-Skip- After the KC Grand Championship~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Normal P.O.V.)
It was the final duel.
You were standing against the wall trying not to bawl your eyes out, as you watched both young men duel for a final time; and right now it looked like Yugi had the upper hand. As the duel dragged on though the possibility of ether winning was pretty much the same, as both of their strategies clashed with one another- leaving both of them all the more determined to beat the other. Yugi had surprisingly managed to defeat the God Cards in the end however, and that meant that Atem had to leave; which made you wail more than anyone else- even Yugi- (not caring about the mess that your makeup was probably in) and grip both the medallion that he had given to you, and the wall behind you for support so you wouldn't collapse to the ground. After speaking some final words to Yugi and the others, he swiftly turned around and continued to walk towards the giant doors which housed the spirits of his past- only taking a very quick glance at you, before snapping his head towards his final resting place again. The Pharaoh didn't even want to look back at you, fearing that one more look in the direction of his beloved would want to make him stay for even longer, but he couldn't. Could he? As the spirit uttered those heart-shattering words "I am the son of Aknamkanon. My name is Atem!" and watched as the gates to the afterlife opened, he heard your heart-broken cries and wails. That only proceeded to complicate things further, and make his decision even harder...
Atem then became conflicted for a while- didn't he want to see everyone again? Yes... but did he really want to leave you alone to suffer? After all you had done for him? No. Of course not. If that isn't considered selfish then he doesn't know what is, after all... you spent most of your time together talking to him about how he could always count on you for emotional support if he was ever doubting himself- and you had always helped. Even when he had informed you that he had to depart to his final resting place multiple times, you seemed to understand; but despite the odds being slim, you still held onto what little hope you had left that he would stay. He also tried to distance himself as a result, so you will not be holding onto false hope- this had the reverse effect though, and you just came running back to him asking what was wrong. Thinking about all of these things caused a guilty expression to fall across the Pharaoh's face, because all he would be doing in the end is thinking about himself and leaving you behind; as if you meant nothing. For over 3000 years he had waited for you to grace his presence, and this is how he thanks you? By leaving you to wander the Earth alone for the rest of your mortal life? That last question made Atem scowl at his recklessness; how could he be this selfish? While the Pharaoh was deep in thought however, he failed to notice that his father (in spirit form) had being speaking to him in his mind from the spirit-world. So it startled him at first; but then he relaxed, closed his eyes and opened his mind in order to communicate telepathically:
--------Telepathy (Atem's P.O.V.)--------
"Atem, my son, is this what you wish? To walk among the living and to age with the one you hold most dear?"
"Yes father, I have found the other half of my heart within her- the piece that has been missing this whole time...I can't just let go of her now."
"Understood. You have developed a bond with her that even I cannot penetrate; if she means so much that it makes you question yourself before you do something as significant as this, then I -with the power of Anubis- must grant your wish. For I cannot deny my own son of what his heart most desires, even if that means that he cannot be with me- for that is the role of a father, doing what is best for his child and not for himself."
"But father, are you not angered by my decision? After all my destiny has been fulfilled."
"No. That would be foolish of me, as it was not my decision to make my son. It was yours. You must stay here with the girl; and do not try to convince yourself otherwise."
"Thank you father. I will never forget what you, Anubis and the others have done for me- I promise to live my new, mortal life to the fullest."
"I trust that you will my son, now go to her. She yearns for your presence."
---------End Of Telepathy (Atem's P.O.V.)------
(Normal P.O.V.)
Nodding slightly and letting the doors to the afterlife slowly close in front of him, the Pharaoh instantly ran to (Y/N)'s side and shushed her whilst rocking her back in forth in his arms- shocking almost everyone in the room in the process.
However, right now he only cared about (Y/N) and her tears.
"You had me and the others"you used your head to slightly nod towards the gang along with a few others "seriously worried for a while," you stated to the Pharaoh through your tear-stained face, then cupped both of his cheeks before continuing "but you came back, and I knew you would" you knew he wouldn't and couldn't leave you and the others after all that you've been through. After all, your personal bond with him and he with you was so strong, that it could make even the most significant (and often easiest) decisions in someones life instantly become the hardest. After hearing that the Pharaoh simply smiled, slightly nodded at the others, wiped away your tears and stated "I couldn't leave you alone to linger in sadness after all that you have done for me." Letting out a satisfied sigh, you hugged your Pharaoh close to you so his heart could be heard beating within the confines of his chest, with him doing the same. Everyone around you either 'awing' or letting out sighs of relief and happy sobs in the background as you embraced each other like it was your last day on Earth. That's when it hit you that he was now mortal, which meant that he was no longer linked to Yugi, and could now live out the rest of his life with you; smiling at that fact, you then leaned in to kiss him- which he didn't even think twice about returning.
The Pharaoh and his Queen.
His light for all eternity.
This was where he belonged after all.
This show made me get emotionaly attached to these characters... Then rips them apart in the ending, one of the very few shows to make me actually cry and not stop after one tear
I kept screaming/sobbing "AFTER ALL THAT HE JUST LEAVES!?"
