Hello everyone,

How are you? Are you doing well? I sure hope that you are! ^_^ Well, I have here another sketch, which seems rather appropriate with Halloween around the corner; though that was not my initial reason for drawing it.

Last month, I posted another sketch, as seen here:

As I mentioned then, I had always loved the 1980s movie "Labyrinth," and I thought that it would be an interesting idea to have Yami Yugi aka Atemu or Atem dress as the elusive Goblin King, Jareth. I mentioned the specific reasoning for this in the description of the image above, so please check it out! ^_^

In turn, I also wanted to portray Anzu Mazaki aka Tea Gardener as the heroine of this tale, Sarah. Though I think there are more similarities between Yami Yugi and Jareth, I thought it would be fun to have Anzu dress the part, at the very least. Although, personally I would guess that Anzu/Tea would be very very happy to be Jareth's or rather Yami's queen, unlike Sarah, in the real story of "Labyrinth." But anyhow, eventually, I plan to combine both this sketch and the one of Yami Yugi as the Goblin King as one, so you could argue that Anzu did indeed decide to take him up on that offer; which justifies having her positioned next to him, near his throne!

For those who may be unfamiliar with the 1980s film, the story involves a young girl named Sarah who was deeply immersed in stories and fantasies. From what we gather, from the very beginning, it seems that she greatly preferred them to reality, and arguably she was reluctant to enter adulthood because of that. That is, until the "fantasy" world caught up with her, due to childish decision on her part....

I don't want to say TOO much if you haven't seen the movie, as I still consider it to be very very entertaining, but one sequence was particularly memorable; namely the ball room scene, which took place roughly around the half way point.

With Sarah slowly making headway in her journey, the Goblin King, Jareth attempts to sway the heroine into joining him in his world, by enticing her with a vision of a beautiful (though still somewhat ominous) Masquerade ball; one in which she is elegantly dressed in a flowing gown.

Since I was a young girl, I always remembered being enchanted by this scene, and Sarah's dress in particular had always stuck out to me as being rather exquisite. It seems that Jareth was attempting to lure Sarah with her long held desires of being a lovely maiden, in one of the many worlds found only in the stories that she'd cherished throughout life. But in the end, she was able to break free of the illusion, never losing sight of her ultimate goal; working towards saving her younger brother, Toby, who was being held at Jareth's castle......

Within this sketch, I have depicted Anzu aka Tea wearing this dress; though I must say that this was not an easy task! @_@ As I mentioned in the sketch of Yami, as the Goblin King, I found it a bit difficult finding adequate reference for these outfits, particularly ones with fine details. This dress proved to be even more problematic than even Jareth's outfit! I not only had to comb the web for reference material, but I also had to use screen shots from the film to aid me. This was helpful for the upper portion of Sarah's dress, as well as the various hair accessories that she wore, but not so much for the lower portion of the gown unfortunately..... I think the details will be much clearer, however when painted, so please be on the look out for the final image!
