Well, just how you said at the end. I usally go from light ot dark, but in this case It was the opposite, I used a black pencil for darker areas, I applied a layer of dark grey and blended all with light gray, then I used the black pencil again to intensify the shadows and the pen toΒ mark the lines. I hope it has helped you ^_^
