Description The Illinois Central Railroad is one of the oldest and continuously operated railroads in America. While other roads have merged or fallen, the IC has been a constant and essential factor in the growth of the nation. From it's colorful past with named trains like the City of New Orleans and the Panama Limited to it's modern age, the IC rules Mid-America!

To tell You the truth, I was 8 years old when I moved next to the IC. I got hooked on them since.

Yeah, The only regret is not having a camera to catch it all when I was a kid. I did manage to catch some IC locomotives when I was around 18 or 19. You can check my photostream from some I have taken.

When I think about some of the opportunities I missed by not having a camera with me.
I'll check your photostream.

That was quick!

Awesome choice using the brown and orange nose stripe and green diamond.

I was going to send you pics of the green diamond logo, split rail logo and green diamond streamliner and the brown E-8 to choose from.

Great choices!

I think the Illinois Central Historical Society might be interested in this.

The City of New Orleans song strikes a chord with me in the verse "...all along the southbound odyssey , the train pulls out of Kankakee..."

I grew up in Kankakee. That's my fifteen minutes!

Thanks for making this!

Thanks! I got inspired by the City of New Orleans. That was a great song.

Do you know anybody with Illinois Central Historical Society that you could show this to? That would be cool if they would be interested in it.

That's a magical name Kankakee.

The IC Historical Society "Company Store" manager said he'll show it to the board of directors at their next meeting on November 3rd.

Should I give them your contact info immediately if they express interest in stocking this on products in some way? Right now all they have is the link to the image.

Very nice design. My favorite train one so far. I like the continued presence of a gas lantern, too. Has more character.

Thanks! You'll get a kick out of the Conrail version that I'm working, I went with the modern plastic Lantern.

You're right, I did. The modern latern works for Conrail more than for, say, IC. A fitting choice.

Cool! I had several modern lanterns to choose from, but this one was the newest that I had.

I see. This is cool. And who can forget that there's still a train called "The City of New Orleans"...oh, and the song of that name. Illinois Central is also mentioned in "Long Train Running." And today, they are the backbone of CN's north to south empire. (Also, I saw an IC black locomotive at a CN railyard. It was cool!)
