Description Thanks to this ([link] ) for the reference

The Tassel Worm is a character from one of Teletoon's new shows, Detentionaire. He is a pretty awesome character And I especially love him in the episode where Lee thinks he was halluncinating the tap-dancing, top hat, moustache and monocle wearing creature

Tassel Worm(actually, wikipedia says it's spelled Tazelwurm) (c) Teletoon/Nelvana?

It's so much fun

If you're into books about cryptzoology, the one that got me started on the whole cryptid craze was Cryptid Hunters by Roland Smith. It's mostly about MokΓ©le-mbembΓ©, although it does mention others in passing

AthenaNightshade In reply to YellowSkinnies [2012-04-08 04:52:46 +0000 UTC]

Read it. I'd eat the snake in that situation. ^_^ I was into cryptids before that though. That's why I picked up that book.

I wish that there was a class that you could take that's actually about cryptids without having to deal with all of the nuts. -_- Just get to the "science" of it, you know?

Awesome! Have you read the sequel??

I know, right? They were the main reason I wanted to go into biology, so I could study them. Although my area of expertise was going to be the sea monsters

AthenaNightshade In reply to YellowSkinnies [2012-04-08 05:54:29 +0000 UTC]

Oh, and FYI a Tatzulwurm was generally believed to be some kind of rare venomous salamander. The last sighting was around a hundred years ago, and if it did exist, it's probably become extinct. (Too bad.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

YellowSkinnies In reply to AthenaNightshade [2012-04-08 05:56:21 +0000 UTC]

That's pretty cool...

I did find the sequel! It's called Tentacles, and is about the giant squid (my mistake) who is definitely in my top favs for cryptids. I had decided I wanted to be a marine biologist during this phase and finding a live giant squid was on my to-do list

There's also supposed to be a third book, called Chupacabra

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AthenaNightshade In reply to YellowSkinnies [2012-04-08 06:03:14 +0000 UTC]

A giant squid IS in the realm of possibilities, a lot more likely than a Kraken... sadly...
So how do you plan to locate the squid? It would have to be a pretty deep dweller, right?

Who doesn't love the Chupacabra? I wonder if he's be going with the traditional folklore one, or the more coyote like one. (There is a new species that has been discovered that's generally considered a Chupacabra. It's a hybrid of the Mexican wolf and coyote.)

^_^

Yeah...There have been submarines made to go deep enough, so they have been spotted, and they have washed up dead, but they've never been able to capture a live one and bring it to the surface...

Speaking of deep sea cryptids...Have you ever heard of the bloop?

I figure he'd probably go with more traditional. Or maybe it depends on the story line

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AthenaNightshade In reply to YellowSkinnies [2012-04-08 06:18:03 +0000 UTC]

I've heard that astronauts have spent consecutive days in space than aquanauts have spent underwater.
I'm not sure it would be possible to capture one alive... What if it's like a shark? You know? It requires the precise current and space of the ocean to survive...

It's weird, for some reason, people have lost interest in exploring the ocean. (SeaQuest and Ocean Girl aren't going to happen anytime soon...)

The Bloop? Hm, I don't think so... It's a New Zealand cryptid, right? (I thought it might have been related to a sea apple when you first brought it up, but that's not in the right place...)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

YellowSkinnies In reply to AthenaNightshade [2012-04-08 06:26:07 +0000 UTC]

I think that's probably the reason why. I don't know much about the anatomy of a squid or giant squid, so I can't make too many speculations, but there has to be a reason it's only found so deep and other squids don't go that deep either

I like the idea, but it's also really freaky, since if something goes haywire, you have little to no chance of surviving...

The Bloop is basically just some really deep, really loud sound that was recorded and no one has any idea what it is. This is a pretty good video for it [link]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AthenaNightshade In reply to YellowSkinnies [2012-04-08 06:34:05 +0000 UTC]

Maybe it's the pressure. Kinda like how we can survive in higher and lower pressures, but maybe the squid can only do it for short amounts of time.

Same as if you were in space. I have to say, though. It is pretty scary. Not as scary as it use to be though. (Did you see that MythBusters episode with the old diving suit? THAT was freaky!) Nothing's without risk.
(For some reason during this conversation, I just keep thinking of SeaQuest and Ocean Girl... I don't know why...)

It just sounds like air breaking the surface of water to me... Though why it would be so loud, I have no idea. (Maybe it's lava breaking the surface to the water... Nah, that's crazy.) But only in '97? Is it just that no one has been in that area since then?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

YellowSkinnies In reply to AthenaNightshade [2012-04-08 06:40:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, since they're so squishy

I havent watched MythBusters in forever! What happened?

What's all that about?

Well it was also sped up x16, since the frequency was so low it was impossible to hear...That fact that it is shorter than all of the other sounds is what's interesting to me. Something emitting such a low, loud noise can't move fast, and shouldn't be able to make such a short noise...

It's weird how these ocean things are only encountered once...

AthenaNightshade In reply to YellowSkinnies [2012-04-08 06:49:09 +0000 UTC]

"Dumpster Diving" is the name of the episode. If you have netflix it's under Collection 7, episode 2

SeaQuest is a show made in 1990 about a scifi submarine, in a world where we've colonized the ocean... kinda, and Ocean Girl (Love Ocean Girl) is more complicated... Both are on netflix.

It's not that strange considering the vastness of the ocean, but it does make it easier to pull off a hoax...

(It's a hoax, but the first time I watched it, it scared me so bad I'm a wuss when it comes to jump-scares)

I have not! What's it about??

AthenaNightshade In reply to YellowSkinnies [2012-04-08 22:23:41 +0000 UTC]

A stepbrother and stepsister, (it's not a ship thing, they see each other as siblings) their parents are super famous musicians, and they travel the country. It turns out the stepsister's mother was a Secret Service Agent, and the two siblings and the SOS (Some Old Spooks) former CIA, NSA, etc. work together to solve her mother's last case.

Hm? I didn't know he wrote a sequel, I was just looking at his book and I didn't see one...

Really, I'm more of an ancient stories type myself. We should combine forces. What kind of sea creatures? Because there are ALOT. ^_^ Then there's the semi aquatic creatures.

YellowSkinnies In reply to AthenaNightshade [2012-04-08 05:53:04 +0000 UTC]

I saw it in the book store a little while ago...If I remember correctly, it's about the Kraken...I have yet to get it myself. I'll look it up

Honestly, I'm really out of practice now, but I used to know a good majority of those related to Nessie. Like, the traditional sea monster types, with a few hybrid like things thrown in. The only thing I remember now is that there is only one that is supposed to live in a river, and that a relative of the ogopogo is supposed to live in Saskatchewan >___>

Oooh, cool! Like what??

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AthenaNightshade In reply to YellowSkinnies [2012-04-08 05:58:32 +0000 UTC]

Kraken? Always good read. I hope that the Kraken is intelligent, if there is another creature on Earth with our level of communication, then it's likely to be in the ocean.

Harpies, sirens, kelpies, selkies. Course they're more ocean creature-land creature hybrids...
I have a very wide range of knowledge, not really specialize in a specific area.
