I like both, or my favorite thing to do is a mixture of both. the only thing I have problems with are still lifes. I HATE THOSE, especially floral arrangements or fruit bowls. Those are the epitome of boring....woopdeedoo a vase full of flowers/ a bowl of fresh fruit! How incredibly original and awe-inspiring and astonishing...psyche
But sometimes its good practice to draw what you see. Helps me remember proportions and stuff. And sometimes I see something on the street that I just have to draw.
