In 2257, Pope Pius XVI finally traded the heavily polluted surface of Earth for a permanent skybound residence, known as the Papal Vessel - one of the most heavily guarded spacecraft in existence. It is not clear whether Pius himself conceived of the design, although he was known for his love of birds. He is said to have been especially fond of the long extinct Pelican, although scholars disagree on the veracity of this account.
